Library Assistant BLAST- 171076 

Location CLP - Office of Programs and Partnerships  

Job Summary: Works as part of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's innovative BLAST outreach team to develop and present dynamic programs for children in Early Childhood Learning Centers, Childcare Centers, and Pittsburgh schools located in selected South Pittsburgh communities. This position is a part-time grant funded position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and presenting creative programs supporting emotional wellness and anti-violence;
  • Representing the Library and promoting services to the public and other agencies partnering with CLP;

  • Developing and presenting workshops for Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh staff, teachers, parents, and organizations;
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with school partner administrators and teachers to ensure access, cooperation, and success.

Position Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education;
• Demonstrated experience working with preschool and/or elementary school age children in a classroom and/or large group setting;
• Knowledge of PA Early Learning Standards and their application to early childhood programming;
• Knowledge of Children's emotional development;
• Understanding of read aloud techniques and strategies and how to implement them in a classroom;
• Detailed knowledge of South Pittsburgh (Arlington, Carrick, Knoxville) including service providers, demographics, and community contacts, etc.;
• Ability to provide, maintain, perform data entry and manage all aspects of statistical data requested by the library and for grant reporting purposes;
• Ability to review and understand grant requirements and deliver excellent reports in a reasonable and regular timeframe;
• Ability to provide quality customer service, both in person and over the phone;
• Energetic, dynamic, highly organized, self-motivated and possess strong leadership skills;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Ability to accurately and consistently apply policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of current technology and electronics resources; including Windows operating system;
• Ability to take direction and work both independently and as part of a team;
• PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check, Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
Full-Time/Part-Time Part-Time  
Work Hours 15-20 hours per week 8:30am – 5:00 pm, with some evening and weekend hours  
Salary $15.50 per hour
