Human Resources Internship

Disability Rights New York is seeking a Human Resource Intern. Disability Rights New York (DRNY) is the Protection & Advocacy System and Client Assistance Program (P&A/CAP) for persons with disabilities in New York. As the P&A/CAP for New York, DRNY advocates for the civil and legal rights for New Yorkers with disabilities.

Summary:

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to all aspects of the HR function. The Internship program provides individuals, typically current students the opportunity to utilize the education, knowledge and experiences acquired during their undergraduate or graduate education. The fundamental purpose of an internship is to provide the student with practical experiences and an opportunity to enhance skills through active participation and involvement, direct exposure and engagement in a variety of functions. The student will work closely with the Human Resources Director and Executive staff members to prepare for a career in Human Resources.

This is an unpaid internship, for-academic credit or experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Employee file maintenance, including legal documentation and filing requirements

  • HR department auditing

  • Develop and update HR documentation (policies, checklists, manuals)

  • Conduct analysis on various HR metrics and present findings as well as recommendations

  • Place Job postings

  • Perform general research and analysis on various projects

  • Schedule pre-screenings, coordinate interviews, and communicate with candidates

  • Proofread and provide content suggestions for HR documentation

  • Provide general clerical support, plus other duties and special projects as assigned

    Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with an interest in Business, Human Resources, Labor Relations, psychology, or applicable field

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)

  • Ability to write and present in a polished and professional manner

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must have highest standard of organization and attention to detail

  • Must be available 10-12 hours/week

    Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate verbally in person or by phone.

  • Manual dexterity/visual ability to operate computer, office equipment, etc.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

    Working Conditions:

  • Work typically performed in an office environment with the majority of time spent working on a computer.

  • Must be available 10-20 hours/week

  • Unpaid Internship
