Job Summary



The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is presently seeking an Associate Director of Visitor Services (DVS) to serve as an integral part of the museum team. As part of the founding team, the DVS is responsible for the successful management of the front of house staff that represents the face of the Academy within the museum and theater; overseeing the excellence, execution and deployment of visitor services and theater staff to ensure a one of a kind experience.



Duties and Responsibilities




  • Oversees the Manager of Visitor Services and the visitor services department to ensure a premier experience for all visitors to the Museum;

  • Oversees the Manager of the Theater Operations and the theater department to ensure a premier experience for all programmed and private events;

  • Builds and leads the visitor services and theater department to ensure a premier experience for all on-site visitors to the Museum and theater;

  • Communicates regularly with other departments to ensure operational awareness of all museum functions;

  • Develop and maintain budgets and budgetary goals;

  • Develops and ensures that department systems, procedures and practices support effective operations while providing outstanding customer service.

  • Prioritizes the collection, analysis and use of data as a means to measure effectiveness of all aspects of Visitor Services, including ticketing, capacity and pricing, hours, and customer satisfaction;

  • Coordinate with Group Sales team to ensure positive group visitation experiences. Manage arrival of group visitors;

  • Handle visitor concerns, comments and complaints that cannot be settled at supervisory level;

  • Training and familiarization of ticketing system, becoming a system administrator capable of training visitor services staff and new hires;

  • Act as a liaison with the on-site restaurant and serve as the primary contact for all food service needs;

  • Other duties as assigned.


 
Position Requirements
  • 3+ years’ experience working in an art museum, theater, performing arts or in nonprofit cultural administration;
  • 3+ years’ experience in a customer service role in a for-profit or not-for-profit organization;
  • 5+ years’ managerial experience with significant working knowledge of the business, operational and financial practices of a high performing organization;
  • Understanding of museum field best practices;
  • Proven ability in large team management, staff training, fiscal management and planning in both administrative and programmatic areas;
  • Must enjoy working with the public and demonstrate friendliness, professionalism, enthusiasm and a customer-centric approach;
  • Broad knowledge of information technology and P.O.S. applications;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and resources needed to meet deadlines;
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays and special events;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business management, museum studies or comparable area of study;
  • Experience starting a new organization desired;
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays and special events.

Physical Demands of the role:

Must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of 2 hours; stooping, ability to lift up to 20lbs
