Description

The Maintenance Technician’s primary responsibility is for the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and facility to ensure a safe working environment, which allows for quality food safe product to be produced when our customers need it. The Technician will apply accepted preventive and predictive maintenance procedures in their daily routine. They will be expected to work with minimum supervision on any shift assigned.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Production to ensure the application of safe work and food safety practices are met.

    • Inspect work area for worker safety and food safety issues. Correct deficiencies immediately when possible. Communicate corrections and follow up work needed to the Maintenance Supervisor.

    • Maintain timely completion of PM’s and assigned Work Orders

  • Ensure that the Boiler is supplied with the proper amounts of chemicals and that all operational procedures are followed.

    • Inspect boiler system for any abnormalities.

    • Follow guidelines for blow downs and chemical analysis.

    • Keep accurate log of all activities relating to the boiler.

  • Operate and maintain the refrigeration system to ensure safety and maximum capability.

    • Drain oil as required.

    • Inspect and maintain all components of the ammonia system to IIAR standards.

    • Keep accurate logs of all work done on the system.

  • Troubleshoot, Repair, Rebuilt, or Replace all plant equipment when needed.

    • Understand the operation of all equipment in the plant and maintain it to operate the highest efficiency possible.

    • Understand principles of pump operation and maintain them to maximize efficient outputs and longevity.

    • Understand control wiring including PLC logic to be able to keep the equipment running in an efficient safe manner.

    • Understand steam principles and design to be able to maintain solenoid valves and processing uses of steam.

    • Understand pneumatic principles and design to be able to maintain solenoid valves and processing uses of air.

    • Understand mechanical concepts in motion devices, such as bearings, shafts, pulleys, and others.

  • Fabrication of parts, platforms, piping, equipment and other items needed to efficiently and safely run the plant.

    • Proficient use of all types of welding to safely meet the needs of the project.

    • Use of machine shop tools including drill press, mill, lathe and other tools as needed to fabricate and repair items needed in the operation of the plant

  • Assist in keeping the Shop and all Maintenance storage areas clean and pest free.

    • Periodic and regular cleaning tasks including sweeping, moping and others to keep the work area organized and in compliance with GMP’s.

    • Painting of equipment and structures.

  • Responsible for following all Food Safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including SQF level 2, Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Modernization Act and associated Preventive Controls.

  • Any other job duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree from college or technical school or 3 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge and Skill Level

  • Comply with all Food Safety policies, procedures, regulations including G.M.P.s, Quality Assurance Procedures, Hazard Analysis Critical

  • Control Point and GFSI/SQF Level 2 or other 3rd party audit criteria.

  • Strong electrical background with PLC and motor control experience.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment relating to the process and packaging of oils and all related products.

  • Ability to weld stainless steel as well as carbon steel utilizing all accepted welding methods while maintaining a food safe finish.

  • Working knowledge of shop tools relating to the trade.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and ladder logic documentation.

  • Ability to read and understand technical terminology written in English in Operator and Maintenance manuals.

  • Must be able to write in English legibly and keep accurate records.

  • Must be able to perform mathematical functions to determine volumes and ratios.

  • Must be able to utilize time wisely and be able to work with limited supervision.

  • Must become qualified to operate required forklifts and personnel lifts in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Working knowledge of lathe and mill preferred.

  • Oregon State Limited Maintenance Electrician license preferred.
