Under the direction of the Executive Chef, the Food Manager is responsible for daily inventory, and reporting items needed for ordering: food, drinks, and paper goods required to provide 100% of the food service function for both HallOVeen and the Magical Forest. This also includes private parties and park buyouts. You are responsible for the creation and posting of the staff schedule for all of the seasonal food staff, one week in advance. Responsible for maintaining full compliance of food safety and sanitation laws, including those related to storage, preparation and service of food. Duties will include Food Service Sanitation. Due to the high demands of the Magical Forest once open, you will be working alongside another Food Manger to share duties and manage time.

There are evening hours and weekend responsibilities with this position that may require extended hours. This is a seasonal position that runs through the duration of the Magical Forest. This temporary assignment will last from approximately October 1 - December 31, 2017.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reinforce and positively engage in Opportunity Village's organizational culture supporting choice and creativity of clients and of staff.
  2. Train the nightly food service community partners and engage them in the spirit of their volunteer service and reward the community partners with compliments and encouragement
  3. Daily management of the entire food operation including outdoor and indoor concessions for both the Magical Forest and HallOVeen event
  4. Maintain a continual inventory of cocoa, drinks, food, bread, paper goods, etc.
  5. Adhere to all Health regulations
  6. Secure and maintain walk-in and freezer space needed for inventory, knowing that it may be necessary for frequent food drop offs or pick- ups during busier weeks
  7. Coordinate food delivery and pick-ups with necessary parties
  8. Create staff schedule for all seasonal food employees, including the scheduling of staff for private parties and park buy-outs. Ensure schedules are posted one week in advance and monitors that staff adhere to scheduling guidelines.
  9. Make recommendations for the appropriateness of staff and the need to eliminate positions.
  10. Coordinate and maintain private party and park buy-out information with MF Event Manager to ensure all OV needs are met.
  11. Have all staff and necessary preparation complete and ready for park opening
  12. Monitor food levels throughout the evening to reduce waste
  13. Responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of kitchen and outer buildings. Assuring that upon closing for the evening staff must wash all dishes, turn off all equipment, clean the grill, sweep and mop floors and put away food items. The kitchen must be ready to go for the JDP students that utilize the kitchen daily.
  14. Able to work in varying food locations indoors and outdoors with various temperatures.
  15. Be on call daily throughout the contract period for advice regarding labor and product ordering
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Ability to care, respond and work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to evaluate emergency situations and prioritize work load in order to meet strict deadlines.
  • Must encompass professional demeanor.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Must possess social discernment to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours along with weekends and holidays for special events.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Southern Nevada Health District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of culinary practices and food safety.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: 1 - 3 years verifiable work experience in the food service field.
  • Required: Minimum of 2 years managing a staff.
  • Required: Current Nevada Driver’s License and Southern Nevada Health District Food Handlers Card.
