Lead Mental Health Technician  

Description

The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority has a full-time position available for a Lead Mental Health Technician to perform skilled human support and administrative work supervising and coordinating the provision of mental health technician staff for the client population as part of the CSU Management Team, and related work as apparent or assigned. Provides supervision to subordinate mental health technician staff and unit supervision in the absence of the CSU Program Manager II, Nursing Supervisor, Team Leader, or Clinical Staff. Performs safe and effective human support work maintaining the safety of clients, monitoring clients with special needs, coordinating meal service and delivery, facilitating educational groups, performing and assisting clients with laundry duties, encouraging clients to adhere to treatment goals, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Job Duties:

  • Provides staff supervision and performance management to mental health technicians and completes interim and annual evaluations.
  • Assist CSU Program Coordinator with MH Technician call-outs prior to on-call hours to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Completes Electronic Health Record audit & Quality Assurance of group notes.
  • Assists with hiring of Mental Health Technician staff and provides new staff orientation.
  • Participates in agency management and planning meetings, as needed.
  • Responds to emergencies and assists in crisis intervention.
  • Monitors and maintains unit safety; monitors clients and assists with their activities of daily living; monitors eating/sleeping and hygiene habits.
  • Schedules and facilitates every other month All Tech staff meetings.
  • Facilitates and assists with the development of program groups and completes group documentation and shift documentation, shift report, and 15MC.
  • Performs direct client service duties by meeting and greeting clients upon arrival to the unit and taking an inventory to check for contraband and pests; makes beds and orients client to the unit.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the unit and client laundry; assists clients with special needs; serves meals.
  • Engages and provides verbal support for clients face to face constantly and completes progress notes for every engagement.
  • Facilitates discharges in full consultation with the case management team.
  • Manages meal requisitions listing census counts to the catering organization.
  • Performs clerical duties as needed.
  • Attends meetings, trainings and seminars as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced knowledge of community and Authority resources, programs, and regional and State resources for the community service population; knowledge of interviewing and supportive counseling techniques; knowledge of social casework techniques; general knowledge of human development and behavior; general knowledge of the theories, principles and techniques of individual, family and group therapy; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; offer program recommendations; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally, and in writing; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and maintain effective working relationships with medical personnel, law enforcement and officials, clients, coworkers, subordinates, and supervisors, and the general public.

 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, counseling, nursing or related field and moderate experience in clinical documentation.
  • At least 1-year experience working with people with mental illness and co-occurring disorders, group facilitation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a behavioral health setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems and technology.

Special Requirements

  • Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Ability to work weekends, variable shifts and holidays.
  • Advanced computer literacy
  • Job responsibilities as assigned.
  • CPR certified

Starting Salary Range $44,402.19 - $49,000.00
