Position Description:

PETA is looking for a smart, quick, and creative animal advocate to help manage digital content and presentation on PETA's websites. You should have experience writing and creating content for a brand or nonprofit and/or experience working in a digital newsroom. You should be accustomed to creating, editing, and posting stories, galleries and/or videos and have experience managing unique digital projects that require a basic working knowledge of HTML and photo editing. The ideal candidate will have an eye for colorful Web presentation, be comfortable in a fast-paced digital environment, follow a vegan lifestyle, and be a champion for all animals.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Create and manage digital projects including PETA's confidential investigations and contests
• Manage the PETA.org homepage, ensuring proper placement of items, bright colors and attractive photos at all times.
• Assist in managing the PETA.org blog, which involves posting 10-15 new pieces of content per day
• Post all projects to PETA.org via WordPress, ensuring flawless presentation of text and multimedia elements
• Use Photoshop to crop photos, blur photos, credit photos and re-size photos for various online platforms
• Liaise with PETA's social media team to ensure proper promotion of all content
• Track and analyze Web traffic via Google Analytics, making changes in strategy accordingly
• Write breaking news briefs for PETA.org
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

 

Position Requirements

• College degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum one year of experience creating content in a fast-paced newsroom environment, either as part of a traditional media company or in a marketing-focused role
• At least one year of experience building posts and uploading photos to a content management system (CMS)
• Ability to edit photos in Photoshop, Pixlr, or other online programs
• Ability to use Google Analytics and other programs to determine how well your posts are performing
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once
• Willingness and ability to work at least one weekend each month
• Ability to draft catchy, clickable headlines
• Understanding that “the news never sleeps” and that PETA's investigations can break at any time. You must be accessible and tuned in via smartphone whenever news happens after hours
• Demonstrated extensive knowledge of animal rights issues, vegan living, and PETA campaigns
• Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to advocate PETA's positions on issues professionally
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
