Develops plans, specifications, and inspection reports to ensure items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practice and conducting projects through all phases of development by performing the following duties:

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Designs electrical systems for commercial and institutional buildings.

  2. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and design experience in two or more of the categories listed below, along with a good working knowledge of one additional category.

    1. Lighting design, including lighting fixture selection, layout, circuiting, and controls for interior and exterior applications.

    2. Power design, including layout and circuiting of receptacles, miscellaneous equipment, mechanical equipment, and completion of panel schedules.

    3. Design of intermediate to complex electrical one-line diagrams.

    4. Technology systems design relating to the layout of fire alarm, security, telecommunications and audio/video equipment.

    5. Short circuit and voltage drop calculations.

    6. Fuse and circuit breaker coordination studies.

    7. Power design associated with UPS and generator support systems.

  3. Performs required design calculations.

  4. Performs engineering tasks proficiently by using word processing and spreadsheet software, and computer assisted engineering and design software.

  5. Exhibits effective application of local and national building codes, and strong working knowledge of all applicable safety codes and industry standards.

  6. Makes presentations to clients, and/or in front of groups.

  7. Proposes innovative solutions and strategizes with team to resolve concerns and conflicts.

  8. Shares knowledge acquired at seminars and training events with team to ensure teams stays current on industry standards.

Travel Requirements Occasional travel required.  
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from four-year college or university, and minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering design for commercial and institutional facilities.

  • Licensing as PE (State of Colorado preferred)

  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to achieve cost-effective, constructible design solutions

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; to express ideas; to share information; and to prepare clear, well-organized correspondence, reports and similar documents

  • Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and exhibits creative problem solving strategies.

  • Exhibits strategic thinking skills

  • Knowledge of fundamental business principles and practices, e.g., chargeable versus billable time, invoicing procedures, chargeable expenses, cost versus billing rate and profit margins

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
