All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.   Description PUBLIC SERVICE WORKER FOR STORMWATER – Experienced & TRAINEES with Labor Experience   As the City of Winter Garden continues to grow and thrive, we are seeking experienced Public Service Worker for Stormwater or TRAINEES who are experienced laborers. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance (the City pays 100% of your Medical insurance premiums and also contributes toward your dependent’s Medical coverage), a Pension Plan, Tuition Reimbursement, Paid Time Off, supplied uniforms, and much more!   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists field crews and trades workers in various tasks; mixes concrete and assists equipment operators in routine maintenance of equipment. Removes, installs and repairs various types of water pipes working in trenches or excavations. Performs work in manholes and lift stations; assists in maintaining valves, installing water meters and making taps. Sets up and operates sewer cleaning equipment, cement mixers, pumps, compressors, generators and compactors. Works with contractors repairing, installing, and maintaining storm water conveyances. Cleans and inspects storm drains, inlets, and open ditches. Installs traffic devices, erects barricades, tacks down reflectors, and assists in patching roads. Clears, digs ditches, assembles sand bags, and builds retaining walls. Operates various trucks, tractors, light to medium construction equipment and assorted power equipment Loads/unloads heavy materials and moves/aids in moving heavy boxes, equipment and larger objects. May be required to locate, read, and record readings from water meters, for regularly scheduled billing or for initial, final, or verification purposes. Maintains grounds of city property including spraying and trimming foliage, clearing brush, mowing, and trimming grass, plants, trees, and bushes. Operates basic equipment and machinery (i.e., pumps, generators, compressors, grounds maintenance equipment, trucks, tractors, and related construction equipment). Performs heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED. Experience applying pesticides, fertilizer and other applications in the care of various types of landscape materials is also desirable. Some positions may require a current restricted pesticides license or the ability to obtain license within 6 months of the date of employment. Possess/maintain a valid Florida license. Some positions may require a CDL Class B Driver’s License OR the ability to obtain a Florida CDL Class B or higher permit within 6 months of hire and license within 12 months of hire, including air brake and tanker endorsements, as a condition of employment. Good driving record. Based on FMCSA regulations, applicants for employment and existing employees in positions requiring a CDL are subject to pre-employment, post-employment, and ongoing testing for controlled substances and alcohol as a condition of employment.    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, learn City streets/roads, complete reports/work orders with good penmanship, ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public (i.e., calm displeased customers, resolve complaints, etc.), and establish/maintain effective work relationships. Knowledge of basic tools used in maintenance and construction work. Knowledge of the safe use and proper care of power tools and small power equipment.   PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Tasks necessitate physical strength and endurance.Intermittent performance of tasks involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Requires intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects (100+ pounds). Tasks are performed in outdoor environment under all weather conditions with risk of exposure to vehicular traffic, noise, and exhaust fumes and working around open trenches and construction areas that involve the use of safety equipment such as reflective vests, hard hats, and safety shoes.Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles where heightened awareness to surroundings and adherence to established safety precautions is essential to avoid injury/accidents.
