Director of Institutional Giving 

Description

The Director of Institutional Giving is a key member of the founding museum team. Reporting to the Managing Director, Advancement and External Relations, the Director of Institutional Giving supervises all corporate, foundation and government funding for the museum. The Director of Institutional Giving is a highly visible role both within and beyond the museum, and an opportunity to serve as a key ambassador to the institutional giving community.

The individual selected for this role will join a dynamic, committed, and talented team and will serve as a strategic partner to executive and curatorial leadership as well as its Board of Directors, all of who will be actively involved in fundraising initiatives.This role will provide leadership to the institutional giving team overseeing all strategic aspects of the museum’s global institutional relationships, creating and implementing the future directions and initiatives of the institutional fundraising programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of major institutional prospects and stewarding the current institutional donors to the campaign

  • Designing and implementing new corporate, foundation and government giving strategies for the museum as it moves towards opening and beyond

  • Creating and executing dynamic, innovative and creative corporate sponsorship packages

  • Assisting the Managing Director with department budgets and expense tracking, department hiring, and other management responsibilities as assigned

  • Working in partnership on Academy initiatives including the Oscars, education programs and special events to identify fundraising and strategic partnership opportunities for the museum

  • Overseeing institutional gift reporting, donor stewardship and recognition, donor records maintenance, donor database maintenance, portfolio management, moves management and special events

 
Position Requirements
  • An exceptional track record of strategic relationship management and revenue generation in settings that might include major not-for-profit organizations, including but not limited to museums and /or the corporate arena

  • A deep knowledge and demonstrated commitment to corporate sponsorship best practices and experience creating and executing creative corporate sponsorship programs

  • Successful experience supervising staff

  • Proven success in raising six to seven-figure gifts

  • Significant experience in developing, managing, and deepening relationships with corporate donors and prospects; a sophisticated approach to deal-making

  • Substantial knowledge of the Los Angeles, national and global philanthropic and business communities

  • Experience working effectively with trustees and other high-profile leaders

  • Strong problem solving, research and analytical skills

  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills

  • Knowledge of metrics-based moves management a plus

  • Film background and knowledge of the moviemaking community a plus

  • Knowledge of Altru a plus

  • An exceptional communicator—able to engage in meaningful conversation about the Museum, and to articulate the case for support to multiple audiences

  • Socially adept and at ease with a broad range of individuals and institutions

  • Strong work ethic, with the energy, willingness, and ability to regularly participate in evening and weekend events and to travel as needed

  • Bachelor’s Degree
