Description

Basic Description

We are seeking a qualified Supplier Quality Engineer for the Commercial Solutions Division of ITW Welding with Miller Electric Mfg. Co. with manufacturing plants in Appleton, Wisconsin. The selected individual will report directly to the Manager of Operations and have responsibility over $180MM product quality annual revenue.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual that will drive this new role in the organization in providing supplier quality assurance to improve purchased parts quality and reduce the cost of the supplier base. This position will specifically manage supplier quality assurance and supplier development activities identified by the Supplier Certification and Quality Assessment program to ensure that the incoming material (and services) supplied are of the highest levels of quality and consistently improving.

Essential Functions

  • Establish relationships with key personnel within Miller Electric businesses supporting parts information relating to existing quality gaps, new product releases, or product changes
  • Design, review, and update manufacturing sampling inspection plans and testing of received parts and assemblies to determine conformance to specifications
  • Determine plans to analyze defective material and source of defects
  • Coordinate, track, and manage corrective actions on components for internal and external stakeholders with standard tools (8-D, PFMEA, DFMEA, gauge R&R, etc.)
  • Coordinate, schedule, and perform surveys and assessments of supplier performance, manufacturing processes and facilities to determine adequacy and capability of their systems and processes
  • Provide and coordinate the technical support to suppliers to solve problems related to parts design, quality, control plans, and inspection plans
  • Ensure supplier understanding of ECN changes and specifications
  • Establish SQA manual for system compliance in coordination with Quality Management System manual and continuous improvement/ 80/20 tool box
  • Support the Division’s efforts to establish, implement and maintain a system for supplier certification and performance measurement
  • Coordinate first article inspection and testing for initial production approval, PPAP requirements, and product qualification
  • Participate in the support of ISO standard and quality system audits
  • Develop and maintain receiving inspection plans, gauge R&R studies and calibration records
  • Develop sampling plans, design forms for recording, evaluating and reporting quality data, and write instructions on the use of such forms
  • Assist in the research, evaluation and development of alternate and consolidated sources of material
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Operations, Quality, Science, Engineering, or other similar field with related experience
  • 5 years of experience in supplier quality field
  • Strong communication, leadership and team building skills
  • ASQ certification or quality auditor certification preferred
  • Training in problem solving, continuous improvement, pareto, and/or Six Sigma preferred
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, PPAP, APQP, ISO
  • Strong SPC background
  • Experience in a manufacturing and assembly environment
  • Travel will be required up to 30% with the potential for international travel.
