Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Agent will assist in all aspects of procurement. This position will be responsible for researching prices for supplies and materials based on best price and value commensurate with quality, lead time and/or volume. Assist Purchasing Manager with vendor relations in communicating and negotiating rates, vendor discounts, and building relationships with outside sales representatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Process approved requisitions in a timely and cost efficient manner.
  2. Purchase supplies and materials from vendors for all Opportunity Village contracts.
  3. Research price options and purchase items based upon best price commensurate with quality, lead time and/or volume.
  4. Conduct continuous research to find the most competitive rates and prices on the market for supplies and materials.
  5. Obtain quotes for supplies and materials for potential future contracts.
  6. Maintain vendor files, purchase order files and other related records.
  7. Apply the '3 bid system' by obtaining at least three bids for each item purchased.
  8. Coordinate drop ship purchasing activities.
  9. Provide direct input into contract evaluations and negotiations.
  10. Maintains professional relationship with internal and external customers and suppliers
  11. Perform other duties as assigned
  12. Manages physical and Digital Purchasing records.
  13. Have strong analytical abilities and work well under pressure.
 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Must encompass professional demeanor.
  • Ability to perform in person and over the telephone negotiations.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • An aptitude for numbers and financial content.
  • Proper organizational skills as well as file allocation.
  • Computer literate (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, Great Plains).
  • Knowledge of purchasing and production planning principles.
  • Ability to work independently and make objective decisions.
  • Good negotiation and communication skills.
  • Detailed, analytical and result oriented.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and two 2+ years’ experience in purchasing and planning functions

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Business or Finance.
