About the Position

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an immediate opening for a software engineer experienced in the development of large, complex software applications using the formal CMMI Level 3 (or similar) process model. In this role, the successful candidate will be providing technical direction and on-site oversight for the design and development of the software used within the Navy’s Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system while working very closely with the prime contractor, General Atomics (GA), and a team of NAVAIR representatives. Work will be performed at the GA site in Rancho Bernardo, CA. The successful candidate shall have extensive software development experience and shall have led a software development team under a process-driven methodology (CMMI Level 3 or similar) and also be experienced in multiple Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC) including waterfall and agile. The successful candidate shall have experience in the complete software development process – requirements definition, design, development, quality control monitoring, unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and full system verification testing and acceptance.

Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical direction and guidance in the use of software development process driven methodologies to the GA software development team.
  • Lead the GA team in various software development process reviews including but not limited to: software code peer reviews, unit testing checklist reviews, requirement traceability reviews, and test readiness reviews.
  • Perform assessments and audits to ensure that the GA team is adhering to the defined processes and producing the required artifacts as proof of process adherence.
  • Develop periodic reports detailing the AAG program’s execution status for delivery to NAVAIR 4.8.3 in Lakehurst, NJ.

Position Requirements

Position Qualification Requirements:

Education, Certifications and Years of Experience:

  • A BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field is requiired.
  • Must have at least 5 years experience working on software development projects in a lead role.
  • Must have an active clearance at the Secret level or must have held an active clearance within the last 2 years.

Technical:

  • Must have solid experience working on software development projects using a process driven software development methodology such as CMMI Level 3 or similar.
  • Must have experience developing software in C/C++ on a Linux platform.
  • Must have demonstrated experience leading software development process reviews such as software code peer reviews and unit testing checklist reviews.
  • Must have experience working under multiple SDLCs such as waterfall, agile, and spiral.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Occasional overtime work may be required.

Salary Range This position has a salary range of between $90,000 and $127,000, based on the candidate's match to the skill and experience levels required.  
Travel Requirements Travel is not anticipated for this position.
