Field Service Mechanic

OVERVIEW

Applies to all activities and guidelines for operations performed by the Field Service Mechanic. Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties. This job description shall be reviewed as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.

  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

  • Lubricates and cleans parts.

  • Starts devices to test their performance.

  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

  • Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.

  • Other tasks may be assigned as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment as needed for production needs.

  • Demonstrates competency in troubleshooting malfunctions and repairs of machinery and mechanical equipment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and Training – One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Basic Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Technical Requirements – Definitive understanding of hydraulic and mechanical systems, top drives, diesel engines, draw works, and mud pumps.

  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Working Conditions – While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
