Plant #27 Slitter Operator

Description

Basic Function: Operate a manual slitter with the Helper and Packer, follow safety rules and work instructions & shop floor work orders in order to achieve consistent quality of slit products and maintain production records on simple forms. Suggest departures from standard procedures that might improve quality or lower manufacturing costs.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Organized
  • Familiarity with computer data entry
  • Medium skill level
  • Team player
  • Eye for quality

Job Requirements:

  • Standing 100% of the time while at the slitter
    • Must know basic math, be able to read gauges & meters, and understand percentages and decimals
  • Report to work on time
    • Continuous mental or visual attention
  • Safety glasses and hearing protection are required.
  • Valid tow motor / forklift operator license
  • Be able to operate manual & electrical pallet jacks
  • Be able to operate waste baler
  • Be able to adjust & set knife carriers on knife bank to the correct width if needed.
  • Be able check data entry / functional knowledge of computer program SAP
  • Data entry / functional knowledge of computer program SAP
  • Follow work instructions & shop floor work orders accurately
    • Continuous positioning and lifting of weight from 25 - 75 lbs
    • Safety conscious
    • Good attendance record

Specific Duties:

  • Set up & operate slitter according to established procedures
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping programs as required
  • Ensure finishing equipment is working correctly and write work orders for repair as needed
  • Assist packer as needed to fill production on operation of shrink wrap according to established procedures
  • Instruct trainees in all phases of slitter operation and record keeping
  • Make inspection reports
  • Take simple measurements
  • Record output results on simple forms and/or into computer
  • Retrieve supplies (when necessary) to ensure proper operations
  • Perform safety inspections on machinery
  • Perform yardage checks, record results, and set slitter yardage counter as necessary
  • Be capable of reading tags to ensure that proper materials are retrieved/used
  • Issue hold tags, send samples to Finished Tape Lab
  • Other tasks or duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor
