Staff Development Coordinator

We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. General Description:

The focus of the Coordinator's efforts will be on administering the Pre-Service Training Program for all new agency employees. Assure implementation and execution of the core TranZed curriculum throughout Children's services through training and coaching.


This position reports to the Vice President Organizational Learning and will also work closely with the Director's of various programs.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Training

Specific Responsibilities:

a. Implementation and administration of a Curriculum & Coaching program for Children's Services as the primary structure for the ongoing training and development for all its employees.

b. Develop, implement and administer the initial and ongoing training requirements in alignment with COMAR for all Children's Services staff.

c. Provides workshops for the Reinventing Group Care Manual/Curriculum, College of TranZed and for the Guild's In-Service program.

d. Serves as a trainer for the Pre-Service Training Program and Culture Leadership team.

e. Research best practices and provide recommendations for program improvement.

2. Implementation of Professional Development Support Systems

a. Support the development of a Children's Services Professional Development Library.

b. Support the systems and processes for documenting staff development activities including, but not limited to, a Continuing Education Unit Program (CEU).

c. Deploy and maintain systems and processes for assessing the impact of staff development activities on employee performance and for evaluating the competence level of the staff participating in staff development activities.

3. Collaborative Responsibilities

a. Collaborate with the Baldridge Leadership Team on deployment of the Baldridge Criteria for Educational Excellence.

b. Collaborate with Program managers to support training needs of its employees.

c. Collaborate with the Vice president of Organizational Learning on aspects of staff development and quality assurance.

4. Responsibilities for New Initiatives and Publications

a. Manuals and guidebooks are written to correspond with the initiatives The Children's Guild has chosen to institutionalize including, but not limited to, supervisory training manuals and/or curriculum.

5. Additional Duties

a. Staff Development Coordinator will serve on the Agency's Cultural Leadership Team.

b. The coordinator regularly attends and actively participates in the organizational learning staff meetings, Academy TranZed Curriculum meetings and/or Treatment Foster Care Tranzed Curriculum meetings.

c. The Staff Development Coordinator shall undertake projects and duties as assigned by the Executive Management Team.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, in Education or Human Services and five (5) years experience as an adult training director/coordinator.  Advanced knowledge and skill in professional child-care and/or education theory and practice, advance research systems, principles of teaching, learning and organizational excellence.   

Strong administrative and record keeping skills.  Demonstrated talent in training, coaching and mentoring adults in an educational setting.  Outstanding oral and written communication skills.  Skill in the area of creative and conceptual thinking. Specific knowledge of on-line and web-based learning technologies. The Coordinator will also have a value system that is consistent with The Children’s Guild organizational philosophy, and will assure the implementation and execution of the core TranZed curriculum.  

Must complete the Children’s Guild internal trainer certification program.
