Description

Alliance Behavioral Healthcare is seeking an Associate Medical Director to support delivery of cost effective, quality care that incorporates recovery, resiliency and person-centered services. In the absence of the Medical Director, the Associate Medical Director assumes the responsibilities of the Chief Medical Officer.

The Associate Medical Director is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer in the following:

  • Providing clinical guidance for care coordination services, including:
    • Evaluating patient data and test findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorders;
    • Collaborating with physicians, psychologists, pharmacists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress;
    • Reviewing consumer information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals;
    • Reviewing and evaluating treatment procedures and outcomes of other psychiatrists and medical professionals in the community;
    • Analyzing population level data to support access to care and quality of clinical services for members.
  • Providing clinical guidance for utilization management, including:
    • Developing clinical guidelines to support utilization management;
    • Applying medical necessity criteria for service eligibility in regards to type, amount and duration of service; and in developing the process to assess and document medical necessity;
    • Reviewing the approval and denial of care, ensuring protocols are in place and audits are completed by appropriately credentialed staff;
    • Conducting peer reviews, appeals, reconsiderations and the like;
  • Engaging in training and education:
    • Teaching, participating in continuing education classes, attending conferences and seminars, and conducting research and publishing findings to increase understanding of mental, emotional, and behavioral states and disorders;
    • Providing regular clinical education and oversight to care coordinators and utilization managers within Alliance Behavioral Health;
    • Supporting supervision of other members of the Medical team including Physician Peer Reviewer(s), Senior Psychologist, and Pharmacist.
  • Engaging in continuous quality improvement efforts across the organization.
  • Supporting oversight and engagement in the Credentialing Committee: In the absence of the Chief Medical Officer, the Credentialing Committee may delegate the authority to the Associate Medical Director(s) to review and approve credentialing applications that are complete and meet all requirements set forth in the credentialing plan. The Associate Medical Director will chair the Credentialing Committee in the absence of the Chief Medical Officer.

 
Position Requirements

Requires graduation from an accredited school of medicine and completion of residency or specialty training, board-certified psychiatrist, M.D. or D.O. with an unrestricted clinical license, and four or more years’ experience providing psychiatric services. Must hold an unencumbered North Carolina medical license and be board certified in psychiatry.

These services are delivered by a network of private providers who contract with Alliance.
