The Associate Director, Agriculture is charged with overseeing project implementation and program/business development from a portfolio perspective within Winrock's international agriculture practice area. The Associate Director will be responsible for overall technical and financial performance of projects in the international agriculture portfolio, including budget finalization and administration, and project and personnel management.


  • Provide oversight for project implementation, regularly monitoring project performance and supervise and provide advisory/technical support to project managers to ensure accountability for technical, financial, and operational project management excellence.
  • Serve as a champion for PM@Winrock and ensure project management teams utilize identified tools and best practices for successful project management.
  • Serve as a champion for the DevResults M&E platform with AVP and provide support and guidance to project teams on adaptive management practices.
  • Identify, document, and promote technical, operational, and financial best practices in project implementation.
  • Lead/manage/support business development activities related to agriculture programs (including capture and proposal development). Train, mentor, and supervise other staff working on associated tasks.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and future donors and external audiences.
  • As one of the senior staff within the Agriculture & Volunteer Programs Unit, contribute substantively to overall unit strategic planning, processes, etc. from a portfolio perspective
  • Represent Winrock at external events, nationally and internationally, and position Winrock for expanded work in agriculture programs.


  • Master's Degree in agriculture, international development, or relevant field.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in new business development, program implementation, and/or M&E, particularly for USAID and other international donor-funded projects.
  • Demonstrated portfolio management experience required.
  • Demonstrated team building skills.
  • Proven program analysis, planning, new business development and conceptualization skills.
  • Knowledge of USAID and USDA rules and regulations, including regulations and guidelines related to RFPs/RFAs and M&E.
  • Exceptional communications skills (written and oral).
  • Experience leading, writing, or managing donor applications/proposals.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail.


  • Foreign language capabilities preferred.
  • International field experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in the US.
