Description

Position Summary:

Under general supervision and according to departmental policies and procedures and within the individual plan of care performs the role of physical and emotional care given to clients with mental illness and/or developmental delays. Is responsible to actively participate in safety management, milieu management, crisis intervention and prevention. The Senior Care Provider/Assistant Supervisor must demonstrate excellent customer service and have enthusiasm about the program and the Pine Rest organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides a safe and secure environment for persons served and staff in both individual and group settings.
  • Collaborates in day-to-day planning/development of person served programming and implementation of programs.
  • May assist persons served with personal care. This can include bathing, shaving, washing hands, styling hair, using the bathroom, dressing, etc.)
  • Is responsible to actively participate in safety management, crisis intervention and prevention. This also may include monitoring, assessment, de-escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency psychiatric and medical care.
  • Survey, document, and report and all safety repair and maintenance needs.
  • May perform household duties such as cleaning, cooking and laundry. Drives and escorts persons served to community outings and to appointments.
  • Documents all progress notes, medication administration, and any other relevant information, reporting any immediate concerns according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to monitor for and report to the designated staff any potential risk to person's served safety that could lead to an adverse outcome.
  • May be responsible for both random and scheduled drug testing and conducting searches of persons served and their belongings.
  • Completes reports and paperwork as needed. This includes incident reports, infection control reports, shift reports, etc.
  • Assists in the teaching of persons served/family. This may includes social skills, daily living skills, and behavioral and coping techniques.
  • Responsible to role model the mission and values of the organization through appropriate social behavior and problem solving. Provides spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to persons served.
  • May be responsible to actively participate in safety management, milieu management, crisis intervention and prevention. This also includes surveillance, assessment, de-escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency medical care.
  • May learn and help to accomplish treatment plans and goals of persons served.
  • Assists in the careful use of resources.
  • Perform basic office duties including but not limited to answering phones, filing, scanning and uploading, using Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Performs general office duties including but not limited to the following tasks word processing, photocopies, files, shreds, sorts/distributes mail, provides reception and telephone services. Maintains department specific files that may be sensitive in nature.
  • Shopping for program and persons served.
  • Monitoring spending per budget plan. Completion of appropriate documentation to account for spending levels.
  • Managing the personal belongings and funds of persons served.
  • Maintaining program documentation, both program and person served specific. Updating program documents as necessary.
  • Responsible to schedule, accompany and transport persons served to appointments or other scheduled outings.
  • Creating new medication administration records, inspecting medication carts, and ordering needed medications from pharmacy.
  • On-call coverage.
  • May assist with completion and submission of funder specific billing and miscellaneous forms.
  • May assist with the coordination of team or program meetings, creating agendas and chairing the meeting. Attendance at team meetings is required.
  • Coordination of safety drills and safety inspections (home and vehicle), providing reports to quality department.
  • Assisting with preparation for inspections and audits and performing emergency/safety drills.
  • Scheduling routine maintenance on program vehicles and fueling vehicles.
  • Scanning and filing paperwork.
  • Routine contact with external case managers and guardians/family members.
  • Submission and tracking of maintenance requests.
  • Mentor and train new staff; may assign advocates to persons served.
  • Assist other staff with duties as necessary.
  • Support and promote a recovery focused environment and person-centered approach within the program.
  • Responsible of obtaining the necessity of knowledge of medications required by their position.
  • May be mandated to receive training in medication administration.
  • Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in the required programmatic training.
  • Performs other duties or functions as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises Care Providers and other assigned staff

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Work requires the ability to read, understand and follow directions, and do computations at a level typically acquired in high school or equivalent. An Associate’s Degree or equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be required.
  • Requires minimum experience of three months in related field.

  • Proficiency of electronic systems is required to perform tasks using data and/or ability to learn systems.
  • Ability to communicate in English, hear, speak, and type in order to communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Minimal independent decision-making skills needed to resolve occasional non-routine issues.
  • The candidate may be required to have a valid Michigan driver’s license and ability access to access Pine Rest Transportation Vehicles for the performance of job duties.
 
About the Organization Pine Rest is a nonprofit, free standing, behavioral health system founded in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This comprehensive behavioral health center, coupled with the Pine Rest network of 19 outpatient clinics and satellite offices in Michigan and Iowa, provide individualized and group therapy for people of all ages and all levels of need. Pine Rest clinicians offer therapeutic services in behavioral health for people of all ages and all levels of need across the continuum of care within a Christian framework.

Pine Rest has a 200-bed inpatient hospital program with a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient and a large partial hospital program for adolescents. Additionally, Pine Rest has many inpatient services for adults, including: a 28-bed psychiatric-medical unit in an acute care hospital, four 22-bed adult inpatient units each designed for a different level of acuity, a 22-bed co-occurring substance use disorder adult inpatient unit, a large adult partial hospital program, and a 26-bed older adult inpatient unit.

The Pine Rest Community and Residential Services Division also provides a wide array of services. With over 220 residential beds across a variety of programs, including treatment for substance use disorders, homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, adults with mental illness, and a program for youth aged 11-18 with extensive trauma histories focusing on trauma treatment and life skills programming.

Other campus based services include a forensic psychiatry clinic, a psychological consultation testing center, an attention deficit disorders clinic, an autism spectrum disorders clinic, and a large neuromodulation clinic which provides TMS and ECT services.

The medical staff includes over 70 psychiatrists and other MDs/DOs, more than 120 fully licensed psychologists, more than 250 licensed masters-level social workers, and 30 PAs/NPs.
