QA Technician

The QA Lab Technician monitors and tests the quality of incoming raw materials as well as in process and finished goods received and/or manufactured at plants 27, 33 and 36 as needed; monitors and assists in the resolution of quality, coating, and converting issues as needed

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Obtains in process and/or finished product samples at required intervals, tests them according to standard procedures, and records data on the appropriate forms and in the computer database
    • Approves all acceptable products using the computer format for each product
    • Issues and/or assists production management in the processing of hold tags for any material that does not meet product specifications; maintains a hold tag log with summaries as directed
    • Identifies and properly labels all retained rolls and maintains the storage area
    • Reports any quality, processing problems, and out-of-spec conditions to the QA Manager, as well as the appropriate manufacturing department personnel
    • Initiates and is authorized to take necessary action to ensure that non-conforming product is appropriately addressed or to terminate further processing, upon appropriate notification to Management
    • Works with production personnel on quality issues/defects until resolved
    • Trains new lab technicians and production personnel in QA techniques/procedures
    • Maintains quality records and produces reports/summaries as requested by the QA Manager
    • Maintains neatness and organization in the laboratory
    • Performs product trend analysis/charting as directed by the QA Manager
    • Performs audits as requested to ensure product quality
    • Obtains and tests shelf aged samples as prescribed by the QA Manager
    • Inspects and tests raw materials according to standard procedures to assure compliance with established specifications
    • Assists with the implementation, maintenance and documentation of any formalized quality system (i.e. ISO, etc.)
    • Works varying shifts to cover absences or vacations as necessary; in limited capacity, may function as temporarily relief in the absence of the QA Manager
    • Performs miscellaneous duties or assignments as directed by the QA Manager

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Good attendance

  • Good working knowledge/skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Able to use SAP and the appropriate modules/sections as needed by job

  • Able to work varying shifts/time schedules as demands dictate

  • Able to drive a company panel truck

  • Capable of following work instructions

  • Able to work under stress and deadlines with little or no supervision
  • Team player
  • Eye for details
  • Able to work with all levels of personnel in the company in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of manufactured product

  • Knowledge of SAP, SPC and ISO


  • Education/Certification Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; proficient in basic math and English

    • Valid driver’s license

    • Tow motor license

  • Experience Requirements
    • R&D Laboratory experience

    • Coater experience

  • Job requires some heavy lifting, standing and step-climbing

  • Lab environment – 80% of the work hours

  • Manufacturing environment – 20% of the work hours

  • Wears proper PPE in the manufacturing area (shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection)

  • Must be able to work flexible hours

  • Shares in covering extra shifts when needed
