Technical Operations Manager

Technical Operations Managers are information technology professionals who assist a company’s senior staff in supervising day-to-day operations and activities. A technical operations manager is a leadership position. They are responsible for providing operational management support and managing technical staff, and they provide guidance on issues related to both management and technical activities. They typically oversee all technical operations on a daily basis.


Technical Operations Managers must have excellent communication and people management skills, as well as strong time management skills. They must be able to provide guidance and leadership to the technical staff and make sure that they are always informed of and adhere to the company’s operating procedures.

Technical Operations Managers must be able to motivate the technical staff to perform to a high standard, and have a good knowledge of all the relevant policies and procedures related to human resources. Strong writing skills are an asset, as these professionals are usually required to submit reports to the senior staff. Strong problem-solving skills and an innovative approach to addressing both administrative and technical problems are required.

Roles and Responsibilities

Management Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with teams and client
  • Understand project requirements, coordinate with resources and direct the projects in the right direction in a timely manner
  • Ability to manage change and effectively pass on the information down the line to concerned teams for smoother execution
  • Delegate and allocate responsibilities efficiently to manage projects end to end
  • Is the first point of escalation to take control of situations and manage outcomes
  • Ensure standard operating procedures and project guidelines are in place
  • Task allocation and performance evaluation of team members
  • Project scheduling and resource management
  • Make presentations on project status, present monthly and annual reports to senior management
  • Provide an efficient working atmosphere to project teams and ensure objectives are met within stipulated time


  • Effectively lead teams and inspire others to achieve goals through innovation, quality and excellence
  • Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of team members and suitably make changes if required
  • Resource management skills and ability to handle complex / sensitive issues
  • Encourage team interaction, boost employee motivation and appreciate team contribution
  • Ability to match project tasks with opportunities for development so that employee potential is utilized to the maximum


  • Must ensure teams follow the correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements across project phases
  • Able to guide the team through the development, testing and implementation stages and review the completed work effectively
  • Able to make quick decisions and solve technical problems to provide an efficient environment for project implementation
  • Identify resource and equipment requirements, efficient capacity planning and manage software and hardware availability
  • Must identify technical training for teams when required and serve as a mentor to team members
Position Requirements
  • College Degree OR Five (5) to Seven (7) years' experience
  • ITIL v3 Certification at hire, or achieve within 90 days of hire
