Position Summary:

We are searching for a licensed doctoral level psychologist, LISW or LMHC to work within an outpatient setting in Pine Rest's Des Moines Clinic. The person in this role evaluates bio-psycho-social needs of patients entering services and selects and completes appropriate therapeutic interventions based upon clinical knowledge base and educational background (to include individual, group, and family modalities). The clinician collaborates with other treatment team members regarding patients' progress through interdisciplinary team meetings, record review, and informal discussions as well as ensures that medical record documentation protocols are complied with. Additionally, the clinician ensures that patients' progress notes are entered into the medical records on a timely basis and in accordance with established organizational and departmental procedures and may also provide psychometric testing.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the interviewing of persons served and assessing them through mental status as well as reviewing records obtained from other patient care staff.
  • Selects and completes appropriate therapeutic interventions based upon clinical knowledge base and educational background (to include individual, group, family, experiential, and evidence based models).
  • Collaborates with other treatment team members regarding patients’ progress through interdisciplinary team meetings, record review, and informal discussions.
  • Ensures that medical record documentation protocols are complied with. Ensures that persons’ served progress notes are entered into the medical records on a timely basis and in accordance with established organizational and departmental procedures.
  • May coordinate services and community resources as needed and assist person’s served in obtaining them.
  • Participates regularly in departmental and staff meetings. Serves on programs or organizational committees as required and as time and workload allow.
  • Maintains all Michigan and/or Iowa licensure requirements. Builds knowledge of current trends and developments in treatment and counseling through the use of appropriate professional literature, medical workshops and publications. Fulfills continuing education requirements as per PRCMHS departmental policies.
  • Participates in education and training programs for persons served, families, or community groups.
  • Provides consultation to professionals, hospitals, organizations, or agencies outside of Pine Rest.
  • Membership and involvement in local, state, and national professional organizations is encouraged.
  • May need to visit a person served at their home.
  • May be required to work weekends and or evenings.
  • May provide supervision and training to interns as assigned.
  • May be need to support and promote a recovery focused environment and person-centered approach within the program.
  • Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in the required programmatic training.
  • Performs other duties or functions as assigned..

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides training/supervision to interns as assigned.
  • May supersvise staff at times. 
 
Position Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Current state licensure in an accredited Master's level program in Social Work or Professional Counseling.
• Position may accept a limited licensed Psycologist or Professional Counselor.
• May require a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Council certificate.
• Obtain and maintain in good standing certification commiserate with treatment provided.
• Trained to work in the age group of the patient being served with annual continuing age specific education and demonstrated competence.
• One to two years of postgraduate clinical experience is preferred.
• Child and adolescent training, experience, and interest is preferred.

Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:

• Ability to provide care/service within the scope of: Holding a conviction to express Christ's love and compassion to recipients of services, coworkers, and surrounding communities through integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity, and professional excellence.
• Ability to provide cultural competent care with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community setting.
• Interpersonal relationship skills necessary in order to relate to a wide variety of internal and external contacts including patients and families, multi-disciplinary treatment team members, other hospital employees, and a variety of individuals in the social sphere of the patient under treatment.
• Verbal and written communication skills which enable the worker to convey clear, thorough, necessary and timely information to individuals, family, colleagues, supervisory and management personnel.
• Analytical skills necessary in order to synthesize a variety of clinical and social data to determine appropriate diagnosis, treatment plan and monitor effectiveness of treatment programs.
• The candidate may be required to have a valid Michigan driver's license and access to transportation for the performance of job duties.

 
About the Organization Pine Rest is a nonprofit, free standing, behavioral health system founded in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This comprehensive behavioral health center, coupled with the Pine Rest network of 19 outpatient clinics and satellite offices in Michigan and Iowa, provide individualized and group therapy for people of all ages and all levels of need. Pine Rest clinicians offer therapeutic services in behavioral health for people of all ages and all levels of need across the continuum of care within a Christian framework.

Pine Rest has a 200-bed inpatient hospital program with a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient and a large partial hospital program for adolescents. Additionally, Pine Rest has many inpatient services for adults, including: a 28-bed psychiatric-medical unit in an acute care hospital, four 22-bed adult inpatient units each designed for a different level of acuity, a 22-bed co-occurring substance use disorder adult inpatient unit, a large adult partial hospital program, and a 26-bed older adult inpatient unit.

The Pine Rest Community and Residential Services Division also provides a wide array of services. With over 220 residential beds across a variety of programs, including treatment for substance use disorders, homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, adults with mental illness, and a program for youth aged 11-18 with extensive trauma histories focusing on trauma treatment and life skills programming.

Other campus based services include a forensic psychiatry clinic, a psychological consultation testing center, an attention deficit disorders clinic, an autism spectrum disorders clinic, and a large neuromodulation clinic which provides TMS and ECT services.

The medical staff includes over 70 psychiatrists and other MDs/DOs, more than 120 fully licensed psychologists, more than 250 licensed masters-level social workers, and 30 PAs/NPs.
