Category Lending  

This individual will work closely with the department Operations Manager on a daily basis. Responsibilities include direct oversight of Underwriters, Loan Processors, Funders and Home Equity team members to include production management and performance coaching in order to achieve the highest levels of member service and ensure individual optimal performance. Advanced underwriting skills with strong ability to review Loan Officer scenario requests while simultaneously performing an effective risk analysis to minimize losses to Stanford Federal Credit Union is essential for this position.

Additional responsibilities include HMDA data capturing and quarterly reporting to include management of member compliance notifications and loan withdrawal requests. Responsible for ongoing maintenance, management and annual training of department’s Business Continuity Plan. Daily management of team’s production pipeline report. Manage, encourage, coordinate and take a proactive role with daily work processes in order to effectively meet member service levels and department production goals. Lead department weekly team meetings. Project management as needed in order to successfully meet and achieve department goals.

Additional department secondary support as needed to include but not limited to 1st and 2nd lien underwriting requests, secondary market tasks such as bulk loan sale delivery and processing of department rate locks and extension requests.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Provide daily direct oversight and active management of residential lending team from initial processing to funding to include daily operations, adherence to compliance/agency regulatory requirements, streamlining of workflows and optimal team performance. Ensure prompt and timely member communication is provided and turn times are at optimal levels. Review Loan Officer scenario requests and manage production pipeline on a daily basis.

Assume responsibility for quality of processing and underwriting work performed. Provide performance coaching and general guidance to department team members. Review and make recommendations for process improvements pertaining to streamlining of workflows and achieving optimal team performance.

HMDA data capturing and quarterly reporting to include preparing/mailing/storing member compliance notifications and processing of Loan Officer withdrawal requests. Provide additional department support s needed to include but not limited to 1st and 2nd underwriting of loan requests, secondary marketing tasks such as rate locks and extension requests, and incoming subordination requests.

Active participation with department projects and/or additional duties and assignments as needed.

Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Position Requirements

Work Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of direct work experience managing a mortgage origination team
Minimum of 3-5 years of FNMA residential lending underwriting experience
Advanced working knowledge of industry FNMA/CFPB/HMDA/TILA/RESPA rules, regulations and requirements
Working knowledge, comprehension and ability to perform needed calculations pertaining to income and asset analysis, collateral review and loan qualification
Thorough understanding and comprehension of related department documents/reports to include credit, appraisal, DU findings, flood, SSA, and other documents as applicable

Education/ Certification/Licenses

Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) is desirable, combined with 6-8 years of related work experience.

Other Skills

Ability to speak and write in both English and Spanish is preferred, although Spanish is optional and is not a requirement.
Must have personal computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn other SFCU approved internal applications with demonstrated ability to use technology to effectively and efficiently perform job functions.
