The Field Service Technician (FST) will facilitate the expansion of Shurtape's automated packaging equipment throughout North America.The FST will work in conjunction with the Packaging Market and Industrial Sales Teams to Demonstrate, Install, and perform periodic service to automated tape applicators and equipment within the customer base.Assist Outside Sales Reps in training distributor sales & technical representatives, end user maintenance technicians and line operators in operation and troubleshooting for common case sealing issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide service and customer support during field visits or dispatches
  • Act as a primary technical resource for any automated packaging related issues on supported product lines.
  • In conjunction Packaging Team and OSR's, manage customer onsite demonstration, installation, repair, maintenance and testing.
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions
  • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations/briefings
  • Build positive relationships with customers
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports
  • Observe unmet needs within customer locations and Document observations on a regular basis for inclusion in the product development process
  • Operate vehicle in a safely manner and use field automation systems
  • Hold periodic training sessions with the sales force and distribution partners to educate and improve the technical competency related to Packaging Equipment
  • Cultivation of Shurtape's culture and values by promoting communication, teamwork and the respectful treatment of all individuals.
  • Follow all company's filed procedures and protocols
  • Maintain an open communication style with internal and external customers.
  • Mentor and share knowledge and experience with others in the packaging group and sales organization.
Position Requirements

  • 2+ years of field service experience
  • Minimum HS Diploma with additional technical training in filed service or machine maintenance
  • Technical degree or certification desired
  • Working knowledge of packaging machinery.  Experience with automated and semi-automated carton sealing packaging equipment a must.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair and service technical equipment
  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with Programming experience
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret CAD drawings
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and to adapt to changing work schedules
  • Familiarity with mobile tools and applications
  • Strong Analytical, technical, mechanical, troubleshooting and organizational skills required.
  • Good interpersonal skills required.  Ability to build strong relationships with end user customers, distributors and OEM machine manufacturers.
  • English literacy (Spanish a plus)
  • Computer literacy – Word, Excel, Outlook, Web and Power Point
  • Must be able to spend time in a manufacturing environment.
  • 75%+ travel required within US, Canada and Northern Mexico

  • Ability to travel overnight for extensive amount of time
  • Ability to work in and around various manufacturing equipment
  • Occasional standing, sitting, walking, and talking on the phone
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.



This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to internal and external customers in a fast-changing environment.  Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.
