Each year, the agency's continuum of care and its 300+ professional staff help thousands of youth and their families achieve resiliency, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. General Job Description:

To plan and carry out a therapeutically designated program to meet the academic and social/emotional needs of emotionally disturbed children,

Academic Preparation and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from accredited college or university, eligible for certification by Maryland State Department of Education in the area of special education, preferably with a concentration in emotional disturbance. If eligible for Conditional Certification at the time of employment, must successfully complete credits to obtain a Professional Certification in Special Education grades 1-8, 6-adult or infant-primary grade 3, based on assignment.


This position is accountable to the Principal or/designee.. The teacher is a core member of a team and is accountable to the team for performance, planning and intervention strategies.


Key Result Area #1 Instruction

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Integrated, thematic lessons are provided congruent with the common core standards.

B. The teacher utilizes a variety of instructional methodologies to meet the needs of diverse learners.

C. Individualized Education Programs for all assigned students are fully developed and implemented.

D. Lesson plans are developed and implemented to address the students' learning deficits on a daily basis.

E. Current curriculum is expanded and adapted to meet students' needs.

F. Classroom management meets the needs of the student and the group.

G. The teacher participates in on-going supervision.

H. Utilize technology to support instruction.

Key Result Area #2 Teamwork

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Team member (teacher, Teaching assistant, clinician, classroom assistants and one to ones) roles are clearly delineated and effectively carried out.

B. External support for unique student situations is sought.

C. The team embraces the holistic delivery of services.

D. Effective communication with other team members is carried out through active listening and reflection.

E. Team members are responsible to hold one another accountable by making the covert overt in an effort to be effective with the students.

F. Parent and/or significant others are involved as a partner in the student's educational program.

Key Result Area #3 Leadership

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Provide inspiration and direction to the Children's Guild.

B. Model best practices.

C. Accountable to outcome measures.

D. Collegial approach to teaching is practiced.

E. Serve as a guide and mentor to students and peers.

Key Result Area #4 Documentation:

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Documentation related to regulatory, licensing and funding bodies is completed in a thorough and timely manner.

B. Agency-related documentation, such as student attendance, team meeting minutes, progress summaries, IEP's, report cards, behavior observations, high risk and abuse reports, correspondence, crisis intervention, functional behavioral assessment, portfolio management, skill streaming and behavior intervention plans is completed in a thorough and timely manner.

C. Computer competencies for documentation and communication.

Key Result Area # 5 Professional Development:

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Participate in and graduate from The Children's Guild's Pre-Service Training Program.

B. Participate in campus in-service trainings and agency in-service trainings.

C. Certification and continuing educational requirements are met.

Key Result Area #6 Supervision:

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Responsible for the supervision of the teaching assistant and one to one aides in their assigned classroom to include performance reviews in conjunction with the Executive or the Instructional Coordinator.

Key Result Area #7 Additional Expectations:

A. Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Children's Guild.

a. Successful completion of the Pre-service Training Program

b. Successful completion and demonstrated competency with the prescribed behavior management program.
