API Programmer Analyst

We are looking for an API Analyst who will work with Point of Sale (POS) and Property Management System (PMS) vendors, to help them leverage Shift4 systems. This position is the perfect opportunity for someone that recently graduated with an Associate's degree focused on programming, or someone that has basic to intermediate programming skills. Expect to use your programming skills 15% of the time. Successful employees in this position have the opportunity to move into Software Development positions in the company after serving some time in this role, and building their skillset The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate with POS/PMS vendors to analyze electronic payments and certify that their systems maintain compliance with Shift4's API, industry, and government regulations. The candidate must be self-motivated and take initiative to deliver exceptional results.

Position Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Interface directly with POS/PMS vendors (via phone and email) to assist them with integrating their application with the Shift4 API
  • Certify vendor’s POS/PMS is communicating to Shift4’s API with the correct parameters, procedures, and exception handling
  • Create and modify certification test scripts for the purpose of simulating a wide variety of payment scenarios
  • Assist vendors in troubleshooting API issues in the Shift4 test environment
  • Test software in relation to the API when vendors cite issues, and escalate to Shift4’s software developers when appropriate
  • Develop and maintain a POS simulator (in a high level programing language) to interface with Shift4’s API
  • Follow up with vendors consistently and thoroughly
  • Manage POS/PMS integration projects and document progression in Shift4’s CRM
  • Assist with other software testing as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of internet programming languages, such as: JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and ASP.Net
  • Must have basic programing skills in C, C++, C#, or Visual Basic.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio is a plus
  • Ability to analyze information and solve problems quickly and effectively
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems, systematically, to quickly determine underlying cause of an issue
  • Must have patience and be able to interact with software developers based all over the world.
  • Must be flexible to a changing environment, acknowledging urgency when necessary
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in confidential matters
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Must remain organized at all times

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree in a related field is preferred, two to four years of progressively responsible experience in related fields; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Previous experience in MIS or programming required
  • Experience in the technical or payments industry preferred
