Description

JOB TITLE: Grant Writer

SCHEDULE: Full time; 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday-Friday

DEPARTMENT: Development

JOB PURPOSE: The Grant Writer will identify, track, execute, private foundation grant opportunities and assist as needed Federal and Commercial contracts as well as. Individual will perform a wide range of activities to support Development including research, database management and maintaining files. Individual will be responsible for researching and tracking opportunities and the coordination of competitive proposal submissions.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Write, develop, and edit highly competitive private foundation grants and proposals.

Responsible for all stages of grant development including donor research, creating a schedule and outline, ensuring compliance with requirements, and preparing the final package for submittal.

Writes letters of inquiry, funding proposals, required reports, thank you letters and other development communications.

Work with program staff to comply with all grant reporting as required by funders.

Works with Chief Development Officer to identify potential funders and create funding pipeline. Research and identify new funding sources in compliance with Family Endeavors' programs.

Creates and maintains grant calendar, tracking all opportunities and reports, and ensuring deadlines are met.

Assist as needed to manage the process of identifying and filtering pre-RFP and RFP opportunities.

Coordinate with other development personnel, finance departments and program managers to create responses within tight deadlines.

Manage donor database.

Maintain agency fundraising certifications including state licenses.

Assists in maintaining files and records for project applications, awards, reports and supporting documents.

Assist as need in all aspects of development and the agency.

Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, English or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE: Requires two years of experience in writing and a proven track record in securing program-related grants. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written; exceptional grammar, well rounded vocabulary and articulate speech. Strong research skills. Proficient in MS Office applications & internet research.

LICENSES: Drivers License with clear record.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required to meet business needs. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.

Ability to develop and manage a high volume of opportunities. Must be motivated, dedicated and a self-starter and requires minimum supervision. Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.

EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

COMMUNICATION: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means. Ability to communicate appropriately with all levels of individuals. Ability to make oral presentations and write detailed grant proposals. Ability to present a professional and positive demeanor to staff, funders, officials and the general public.

ANALYTICAL: Synthesizes complex or diverse information, collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement date, designs work flows and procedures.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Identifies and resolved problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.

COMPOSURE: Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to represent the agency and respond professionally in all situations.

COMPUTER: Proficient knowledge of current MSOffice products and donor database management software. Strong internet research skills. 45 WPM, 95% accuracy.

DECISION MAKING: Ability to think analytically, evaluate the impact of decisions and resolve problems. Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate and create solutions to work related problems. Ability to think analytically and conceptually on a long term basis.

FINANCIAL: Strong math skills. Ability to develop and manage a budget and operate within its’ parameters.

MANAGEMENT: Knowledge of business and management practices involved in strategic planning, resource allocation and leadership. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Works with a bias towards action. Ability to evaluate effectiveness of marketing initiatives.

NEGOTIATION: Ability to persuade and influence others to reach optimum public relation and financial return. Ability to present the agency in a professional manner in all negotiations.

PLANNING: Ability to think long term; to make development plans up to a year or more in advance. Ability to seek out and develop relationships that can lead to long term results.

TECHNICAL: Knowledge of best practices in fundraising, grant writing, planning giving, and capital campaigns.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Orientation: 5 hours

On the Job: 6 months for basic competency

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDS:

Multi-line telephone, computer, ten key calculator, printers, copiers, faxes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant – Ability to communicate with staff, funders, community leaders, and high profile individuals to promote the agency and solicit funding.

Constant – Ability to make notes, input data, complete paperwork, produce reports.

Frequent – Ability to drive safely and recognize hazards.

Occasional – Ability to lift, stack, load and move up to 10 pounds from varied heights.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoors: 90 % - Office environment; generally normal noise level.

Outdoors: 10 % - All weather conditions and variable temperatures.
