The Market Segment Manager, will play a key role understanding customer needs, derived through welding market segmentation strategies. They will be part of a new business development team that will include both process and product development resources, as well as marketing personnel who will identify and research key market segments. This individual will be responsible for the overall vision and strategy for a specific welding market segment that will likely show growth in the future based on market trends and end-user needs developed thru a deep understanding of the end-user's business. This person will work closely with relevant sales management and key account managers that are managing accounts in the segment as well as work closely with other business units that have applicable value propositions in the assigned segments. This person will also play a key role in solution development, and search adjacent markets for similar needs.


  • Develop a deep understanding and overall vision and strategy for a specific segment

  • Utilize and apply primary and secondary research on end-users, industries and new markets

  • Perform and direct market research to define segment, assess segment size, identify top accounts and growth potential

  • Develop a deep understanding of the end-user's business and their unmet needs including elements that will inform a go to market strategy and the discover and create phases of the NPD tollgate process

  • Coordinate and direct problem definitions, surveys, interviews and communication as appropriate

  • Validate segment strategic fit

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science Degree

  • Master of Business Administration preferred

  • Minimum 5 years industrial marketing experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a product based, business to business environment

  • Strong business acumen

  • Proven ability to analyze current business issues, end-user needs and formulate market segmentation strategies

  • Strong primary and secondary research knowledge and capabilities

  • Must have excellent analytical skills and have the knowledge to perform and direct both qualitative and quantitative research

  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude, high motivation and solid decision-making abilities

  • Well organized, aggressive self-starter with the willingness to grow and learn

  • Great oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to build relationships among employees, distributors, and key end-users

  • Must possess good presentation skills

  • 30% travel required
