Summary:
The Postsecondary Communications Instructor for the Logistics Captains Career Course (LOG-C3) uses the Experiential Learning Model (ELM) to teach the LOG-C3 Effective Writing Module to US Army officers in a small group setting during all phases of the LOG-C3 at Fort Lee, VA. This includes instruction and testing written communications skills to 22-student small groups comprised of US Army Logistics Officers.
Instruction centers on grading written assignments and will include administering and evaluating remedial assignments along with providing written counseling and mentoring. The objective is to tangibly improve the written communication skills of students who receive an unsatisfactory assessment on any assignment. The initial meeting for each LOG-C3 Class commences with a one-hour training session covering the purpose of an argumentative essay, its traditional format, and other information relating to this form of written communication to ensure that students have a clear understanding of specific expectations for upcoming writing assignments. Written requirements include a total of four papers per student. These papers include a one-page information paper, a two-to-three page argumentative essay, a four-to-six page staff study, and a six-to-eight page paper on mission command. This is a contract position, with a three-year period of performance.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
· Provide classroom instruction on briefing techniques associated with Army briefings
· Provide assessments and evaluations of each student's performance
· Provide classroom instruction and testing in the area of written communication skills.
· Gear written communication skills instruction towards mastering techniques relating to standard military correspondence such as memorandums, decision papers, and traditional military orders in accordance with AR 25-50, Preparing and Managing Correspondence
· Grade all written assignments
· Conduct grading using Command and General Staff College Form 1009W (Student Writing Assessment), dated January 2014 with emphasis on evaluating the students' ability to write effectively as defined by the Army standard; understandable in a single rapid reading and generally free of errors in grammar, mechanics, and usage
· Administer all aspects of the Form 1009W
· Return graded information papers, argumentative essays, and staff study submissions to students within five work days from turn-in
· Return graded mission command papers within ten work days from the day of turn-in
· Participate as a subject matter expert in developing revisions of the programs of instruction, lesson plans, and training support packages to remedy any deficiencies or shortcomings identified during the preparation for and conduct of instruction
· Prepare training materials, develop training aids, set up classrooms, and deliver instruction
· Use personal experience to supplement or enhance course materials to the extent to which they contribute to the course terminal learning objectives or enabling learning objectives
· Administer, and ensure security of, all written assignments and practical exercises
· Provide remediation as required for students needing additional instruction.
· Set-aside time to counsel students on their performance and instances where performance expectations are and are not met.
· Provide and assess a remedial writing assignment similar for any student receiving an unsatisfactory assessment on any assignment
· Develop and provide monthly and quarterly status reports
· Prepare for, support, actively participate in, and provide technical subject matter expertise during in-progress reviews with the customer
Required Qualifications:
· Master's Degree or higher from a nationally accredited university or college in English, Journalism, Writing, Rhetoric, Technical Communications, or related discipline
· Two or more years classroom teaching experience at the postsecondary level in English, Journalism, Writing, Rhetoric, Technical Communications, or related field
· Successfully complete Faculty Development Program Level 1 within three months from the date of contract start.
