Lead Custodian

Summary Position Statement:

Performs custodial duties as assigned. Provides back up support to custodial manager and fills in during his/her absence.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Assumes custodial managers responsibilities in his/her absence.
  • Performs a variety of custodial tasks to maintain the cleanliness, appearance, safety and sanitation of REACH offices to include cleaning restrooms, vacuuming offices and stripping and waxing floors.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understands and complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures confidentiality as prescribed by agency policy and federal/state law.
  • Maintains and promotes a positive professional working relationship with all employees.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, committees and training as assigned.

Position Requirements

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. CPR and first aid certificates required within 30 days of hire. TB, fingerprint and background check clearance required. Must have current Alaska driver’s license and auto insurance per agency standards.


Licensure: N/A


Minimum Experience:  1 year janitorial experience required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong organization, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective problem-solving skills. 


Physical Requirements: Ability to perform moderately strenuous work. Visual acuity necessary to job functions throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to communicate verbally, both in person and over the telephone.  May involve moderate to heavy lifting as needed.


Working Conditions:  Work is primarily performed at the REACH office but may involve some travel within the agency’s service area.
