The Margaret Herrick Library is seeking a entry-level, resourceful, energetic, service oriented Librarian, Technical Services (LTS). The successful candidate will support and provide analog and digital processing, and general collection maintenance activities of the Technical Services Department (TSD). This fundamental member of the TSD team is supervised by the Scripts Librarian.

In a supporting role the LTS will provide service relative to access and preservation of the library’s core collections of books, periodicals, scripts and Awards and Festival Files. Assisting within the framework of department practices, this candidate will be involved in developing innovations that utilize our current technologies to enhance the library’s discovery and delivery expertise. They will participate in all department activities, including but not limited to: circulation, cataloging, acquisitions and digitization projects. This position works collaboratively with the TSD and library staff to provide expert service to the Academy community and the public. They will apply departmental policies and procedures to complete a wide range of complex tasks in creative and effective ways. Candidates must have the aptitude to thrive in an exciting, ambitious, future-oriented film studies institution and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with planning, implementation and tracking of TSD digital project program.
  • Responsible for the physical processing and distribution of incoming TSD materials, including clipping files, periodicals, books and scripts, etc.; maintains physical collections, including preservation, stacks management and filing TSD materials, and preparing materials for conservation and/or bindery.
  • Responsible for circulation of TSD materials and maintains off-site storage collections.
  • Participates in departmental and library wide committees and work groups.
  • Responsible for a variety of other library and department duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information science.
  • Knowledge of film studies, film history or related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience working in a text based library or archival setting.
  • Experience working with digital resources, digital image collections or working on digital projects.
  • Proficiency with computers, software, and library information technology applications.
  • Demonstrated work experience using integrated library systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively on projects and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to prioritize work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized.
  • Ability to work under supervision and independently.
  • Commitment to enhancing services through teamwork.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuing education.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
