About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Description

PURPOSE:
Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating the clinical skill and experience to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to program clients.  To provide integrated substance use disorder treatment for KMHS clients to include: assessment, collaborative treatment planning, individual, family, and group therapy and perform all duties necessary to comply with relevant Treatment Contracts and all other regulatory agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist Care Team staff in further assessing and treating substance use of KMHS Clients.  Request, gather, and coordinate information from all sources to facilitate appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Complete all requirements per contracts to include: Assessment, Intake, monthly Activity, Support Activity, Discharge, and Change of Status forms.
  • Provide individual treatment planning sessions with client and assigned clinician to develop written treatment plans with integrated interventions to address substance use disorder.
  • Provide direct services for clients using substances, utilizing recommended substance use treatment practices.  Services may include individual therapy, group therapy, psycho-educational workshops, recovery skill building groups, family counseling, and crisis intervention.  Provide outreach as necessary to engage clients who are at risk or ambivalent.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing, stages of change theory, and stage-wise treatment strategies to intervene and motivate SUD/MH clients for change.  
  • Provide consultation services and training to Care Team staff, and other program staff as requested, to assist in integration of substance use and mental health services throughout our continuum of care.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners such as CRT, housing team, treatment teams, AIU, Burwell, KMHS Medical Providers, Probation, KRC, other community based treatment providers (IP, OP, Crisis Triage, Detox, ADATSA, CD ITA Specialist), Law enforcement, and Medical Community to assist clients in their recovery process.
  • Demonstrate ability to establish therapeutic relationships with clients while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Routinely identify and evaluate physical risk factors for self and others while in potentially unsafe neighborhoods and homes, while around people with unknown potential for aggression, and while in proximity of potentially unsafe structures or equipment.  Consult with Supervisor, Crisis Response Team and law enforcement as appropriate.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as indicated by client need during assessment and treatment process, recognizing and intervening appropriately given signs and symptoms of use and withdrawal and/or mental health decompensation.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects and contraindications with drugs of abuse and report any relevant observations to care team medical personnel.  Demonstrate working knowledge of adjunctive medications used for addictions recovery and resources for obtaining funding for those allowed through county drug contract.
  • Monitor assigned clients for compliance with court-ordered requirements such as LRAs and substance related mandates. Follow all WACs and RCAs required of mandated clients. (Other than DUI) Provide appropriate legal documents and monthly reports as required.
  • Perform random UAs and test for substance use as clinically indicated.
  • Use collaborative documentation and document all clinical services thoroughly and accurately and submit all documentation in a timely manner per agency policy and contractual/WAC requirements.
  • Demonstrate ability to work efficiently and effectively in a managed care environment, organizing workload by prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.  Maintain acceptable productivity standards as determined by supervisor.
  • Pursue professional growth and development by seeking out learning opportunities and integrating new learning into daily work practices.  Maintain working knowledge of current Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health treatment recommendations, trends in community mental health, including health care reform, electronic medical record and computer technology.
  • Work in a cooperative and collaborative manner as a team member.  Assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Current licensure as a Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) in WA State required; a valid WA State Driver License and reliable, insured transportation are required.  Experience working with clients with co-occurring disorders preferred. An AA or Bachelor’s degree in a social services discipline is preferred.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands to finger or handle, talk or listen, and lift up to 10 pounds.
