About the Organization Founded as a preschool in 1953, the Children's Guild has transformed into a national leader, recognized for creating innovative educational, child welfare and behavioral health models that produce positive outcomes for children, youth, and families. Today, the Children's Guild is among the most experienced child serving organizations in the Greater Baltimore/Washington region. Each year, the agency's continuum of care and its 300+ professional staff help thousands of youth and their families achieve resiliency, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. Music Teacher

General Job Description:

To teach music to students enrolled at the Children's Guild and act as a music resource to staff

Minimum Requirements:

Certification in Music Education with at least three credits of coursework in the area of special education and at least two years of related experience.


This position is accountable to the Principal..

Key Result Area #1: Instruction

This key result area will be achieved when:

This task is successfully completed when:

a. Students' cultural/social differences are understood

b. A trusting, secure and confident student/teacher relationship is formed

c. Integrated thematic lessons which are congruent with components of the basic school curriculum are provided

d. Content and current methods of instructing elementary and secondary vocal and instrumental music are used in a group and individual basis and assemblies

e. Classroom management meets the need of the student and the group

f. Music resources are passed onto teaching staff

g. Music instruction and performance including guest specialists are coordinated for the Guild to instruct or be enjoyed by our students' music

h. materials are ordered, repaired and replaced in a timely manner.

Key Result Area #2: Teamwork:

This task is successfully completed when:

a. Team tasks are clearly delineated and effectively carried out

b. External support for unique student situations is sought

c. The team embraces the holistic delivery of services

d. Effective communication with other team members is carried out

e. Parent and/or significant others are involved as a partner in the student's music program

Key Result Area #3: Documentation and Case Coordination

The task is successfully completed when:

a. Documentation related to regulatory, licensing and funding bodies is completed in a thorough and timely manner

b. Agency-related documentation, such as team meeting minutes, progress summaries, IEPs, report card, behavior observations, high risk and abuse reports, correspondence, etc. is completed in a thorough and timely manner

Key Result Area #4: Professional development

The task is successfully completed when:

a. A mentor is selected and utilized

b. The personal staff development plan is executed

c. Certification and continuing educational requirements are met

Expectations for position:

I. Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Children's Guild

II. Minimum Expectations

a. Music instruction is provided weekly for all classes; special assemblies, special instrumental and vocal groups

b Participation in re-enforcement activities such as specials, clubs, etc.

c. Adherence to assigned working schedule

d. Participation on committees as needed
