JOB STATEMENT:

The Safety Manager develops and administers company safety programs and designs industrial safety programs in accordance with local, state and federal regulations on occupational health and safety. Identifies, surveys, evaluates and recommends correction of occupational hazards. Recommends the purchase or modification of equipment and the establishment of procedures to eliminate hazards and reduce accident potential. Coordinates activities with insurance carriers local, state and federal agencies.

  • Annual Safety Recognition Programs
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and ammonia systems
  • Management Team Safety Recognition Programs
  • Safety Committee Meeting Facilitation
  • Hazard Communication – SDS
  • DOT compliance
  • Annual Employee Safety Testing
  • Process Safety Management Programs
  • Safety File Management
  • Train the Trainer & Employee Safety Training
  • Draft Safety Proposals, Policies and Procedures
  • Injury & Illness Prevention Program
  • Accident Investigation
  • Cal-OSHA Recordkeeping
  • Purchasing Safety-related Inventory
  • Industrial Hygiene

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • At least 7-10 years of experience managing safety in an industrial setting
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, OHST, Confined Space, Fall Protection, PSM, Respiratory Protection, Environmental Compliance is preferred

Knowledge of:

  • Workers' Compensation and Hazmat response plans
  • OSHA and Cal-OSHA regulations
  • California Workers’ Compensation System
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Motivational Techniques
  • Behavior-based Safety Programs
  • Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and Access
  • Effective Communication and Technical Writing

Ability to:

  • Create and deliver training programs designed to educate and engage employees
  • Analyze and evaluate unsafe conditions, behaviors, and methods of work
  • Recommend appropriate changes to improve overall safety
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a clear, professional manner
  • Train others in Safety Programs
  • Work independently and collaboratively with other departments
  • Analyze trends and produce written reports

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sit for an extensive period of time
  • Able to frequently walk and use stairs, occasionally climb, bend, stoop and kneel
  • Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Perform data entry tasks using standard computer equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Limited noise level
  • Indoor climate

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

  • Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
