Manager, Prospect Research 

Description

The Manager, Prospect Research will be a key member of the Academy Museum and will be responsible for prospect management and research with an emphasis on supporting the Museum's strategic fundraising initiatives including completion of the current capital campaign. This role will identify new prospects and develop strategies for soliciting gifts from prospects. A creative approach to prospect research with a collaborative style is strongly desired.

Reports to: Director of Development

Supervises: Database Manager and Database Associate

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, pre-qualify, and conduct detailed prospect research.
  • Build prospect management program and partners with gifts team to advance prospects and fundraising initiatives via a 'moves management' system.
  • Develop research strategies to build a donor prospect pool and database.
  • Research philanthropic capabilities of potential prospects.
  • Supervise data management and data integrity.
  • Supervise accurate records for major gifts prospects including prospect ratings.
  • Conduct database inquiries and produce lists to support cultivation activities to identify potential prospects.
  • Review online alerts and subscription services for up to date information regarding prospects and donors.
  • Provide accurate and timely data to the Development team and Museum leadership.
  • Develop and distribute prospect management reports.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 5 – 7 years experience working in a development office as a prospect researcher.
  • Highest degree of professionalism and discretion in dealing with donor information.
  • Skilled researcher with extensive experience.
  • Proficient in the development of funding proposals.
  • Exercise maturity, personal integrity, professional judgment and discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills with strict attention to details.
  • Able to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, the Academy Museum will restore and revitalize the historic Wilshire May Company building at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. The Academy Museum will feature six floors of exhibition spaces, theaters, education areas, special event spaces, conservation areas, and a café and store. A new spherical addition will connect to the May Company building with glass bridges and will feature a state-of-the-art 1,000-seat theater and a rooftop terrace.
