Cellar Lab Tech  

Description

JOB STATEMENT: Under general supervision perform sample collection, basic water and wine analysis and Inventory Cellar Lab materials. Operate, calibrate and maintain instruments specific to the job duties while observing the department’s safety practices, procedures and quality system.

Essential Duties:

  • Understand and comply with all ISO9001, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes
  • Sample collection for bulk wine inventory
  • Bulk wine O2’s and tank temperatures, calibration of equipment, and completion of paperwork
  • Collect and prepare samples for shipping
  • Sample collection for Winemakers
  • Water collection and analysis
  • Dump carts, recycle glass and cardboard
  • Inventory Cellar bottles, caps, shippers and enzymes
  • Knowledge of Cellar, QC and Production operations as they pertain to the Cellar Lab
  • Cellar Lab maintenance and cleaning schedule
  • Fermenter and pomace collection when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the Cellar Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • Entry level, no previous experience, and must be proficient in English and Math

Knowledge of:

  • English and Math
  • Sampling techniques
  • Computers and current data systems
  • O2, pH probes/meters, pomace moisture instruments Hach test kits
  • Visual inspections of bulk wine tanks for microbial growth
  • Lab procedures for current methods of water analysis
  • Safety issues related to the Cellar and Analytical Departments

Ability to:

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with Company personnel
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain instruments in operational condition
  • Computer data entry - Excel and Winemaker’s Database (Vahl system)
  • Maintaining and organizing a safe and efficient work area
  • Maintaining communication and teamwork within the department
  • Work independently on projects
  • Work as a team
  • Work at heights in excess of 60 feet

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Lift up to 40 lbs
  • Drag up to 50 lbs
  • Use a computer (type, use a mouse, do data entry)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasional noise levels requiring hearing protection
  • Indoor climate, limited outdoor climate
  • Frequently work around chemicals or solvents

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

  • Lab coat or lab apron, appropriate hand protection, side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
