Adult/Child Psychiatrist 

Description

The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking to hire Adult/and Child Psychiatrists. Primarily responsible for diagnosis, treatment, medication management and/or consultation of mental illness, emotional problems and dual diagnosis of intellectual disability and mental illness in children and adults, adults with mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders at Richmond Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) s; and other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides diagnostic assessment and treatment
  • Establishes and modifies medical treatment plans; prescribes medication; monitors client’s response to treatment including medication side effects and adverse reactions
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine and psychiatry;
  • Knowledge of current theories of psychiatric practice including substance use disorders, crisis management and developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their effects on physical and psychological disorders;
  • Knowledge of community psychiatry;
  • Ability to diagnose and treat mental illness in relation to substance use disorders and physical conditions;
  • Ability to deal effectively with children and adults with emotional and behavioral disturbances;
  • Ability to prepare and review diagnostic reports;
  • Ability to conduct individual, group and family therapy sessions;
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work;
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary treatment team to solve problems within scope of responsibility;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and family members, medical personnel, insurance providers, other employees and the general public.

 

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to practice as a medical doctor. Must be Board Certified in Psychiatry and/or Child psychiatry dependent upon position accepted. Permanent positions (40 hours/week) with limited weekend, holiday and on call. Hourly positions available with flexible hours up to 29 hours/per week .
