Position Objective:

To promote animal-free science with major corporations

Location:

Telecommuting opportunities available on the East Coast.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintain expertise in non-animal test methods and international regulatory requirements for testing
• Independently research and interpret a variety of issues related to replacing animal testing required by regulatory agencies
• Make and maintain contacts with major corporations in order to further PETA's work
• Identify and collaborate with scientists and corporate representative on projects to promote the implementation of non-animal methods
• Secure and lead formal meetings with companies and government agencies to discuss the implementation of in vitro and in silico test methods as well as other non-animal strategies
• Ensure timely and appropriate follow-up with companies
• Monitor the progress of departmental communications with corporations in order to ensure that short- and long-term goals are achieved
• Identify, review, and develop recommendations for non-animal test methods through analysis of scientific literature and data sources
• Attend and present at scientific conferences and communicate with scientists on specific issues relating to animal and non-animal test methods
• Plan and execute workshops, webinars, and other educational opportunities for scientists
• Obtain the necessary data for writing factsheets, reports, comments, correspondence, and other documentation
• Represent the organization in dealings with media
• Translate scientific terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor


 

Position Requirements

• Masters or PhD degree in toxicology or closely related field
• Knowledge of animal-testing issues and scientific terminology
• Familiarity with federal and international regulatory requirements as they relate to animal testing
• Support for PETA's philosophy, commitment to the objectives of the organization, and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of scientists and media representatives
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex technical documents
• Proven attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Exceptional public-speaking skills
• Exceptional writing and research skills
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
• Ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
• Ability to make sound, independent judgements.
• Ability and willingness to travel
• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
