Reporting to the VP Corporate Operations, the Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all Matheson employees comply with health and safety laws. This position works with the line management teams to establish policies that will create and maintain a safe work environment. Works with and through management to ensure compliance with safety procedures and assists in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements.
Assists plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
Establishing a culture of health and safety through programs and policies.
Advise VP of Operations on safety compliance concerns and preventable actions.
Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company management.
Maintain safety files and records.
Assist management team in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
Assist risk with completing state mandated annual reporting such as OSHA and DOT.
Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Inspect equipment to observe possible unsafe conditions.
Develop and keep SOP’s current to maintain compliance.
Assist HR team with DOT and BIT inspection as needed.
Plan and implement training, utilizing the LMS for employees on work site safety practices.
Assists, sets up and conducts on-site training as required.
Create and deliver new hire safety/risk training, remedial safety training, first aid/CPR and AED training as needed.
