Construction Worker I

Responsibilities: Assists with interpreting and processing routine service orders and engineering work orders including supply transactions and recording necessary data. Assists in the placement of aerial or buried cable using bucket trucks, plows, backhoes, trenchers and boring equipment. Assist with cable locates using locating equipment. Assists with restoring disturbed work site to previous condition. Assists with operating and properly maintaining automotive, bracing, hoisting and hydraulic equipment such as pole trucks, plows, tractors, and digging, boring and trenching machines. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe working environment by setting up work zones according to guidelines established and enforced by DOT, OSHA, etc. Correctly splices up to a 25 pair cable. Assists in other areas of the Plant Operations Department as needed. Performs other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall objectives of the department.

Position Requirements Experience: Zero to two years related experience and/or training.

Job Knowledge: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred (Engineering, Electronics, Computer or related degree). Heavy construction, electronics, computer, communications or related experience and a CDL permit/license preferred. Must become familiar with and learn to read and interpret cable records, specifications and staking sheets. Must be able to operate and properly maintain automotive, bracing, hoisting and hydraulic equipment such as pole trucks, plows, tractors, digging, boring and trenching machines. Must be able to use shovel and all types of cable locators and use correct flagging and sign procedures. Must report defective tools or equipment in order that they may be replaced or repaired. Must have a state valid driver's license with a good driving record. Basic personal computer skills such as electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. Must have a knowledgeable working experience with the following software: MS Outlook; WOTS; IRS; Ceridian.

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use of hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell and lift more than 100 pounds. Vision Requirements: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). Working Conditions: Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation or outdoor shop environment. Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (for instance, rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.) Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather conditions. Other physical working conditions. May work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), near moving mechanical parts, high or dangerous places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or corrosive chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration and Loud (example: large earth-moving equipment). Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily technical nature.

Special Demands: Must have a valid state driver's license. Must comply with and maintain compliance with motor vehicle record guidelines as listed within the Background Investigation Guidelines. Ability to accept responsibility for works under occasional stressful situations. Hours scheduled except for emergencies. Must be safety-minded and comply with all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Must become
