Based at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Facilities Technician I works closely with Facilities staff on identifying and performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain buildings, grounds, and facility equipment at the historic Taliesin West campus. The Facilities Technician I adheres to safety and preventative maintenance systems and processes in support of Foundation property, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, and the Taliesin Fellowship.

Essential Functions:

  • Routinely surveys the buildings and grounds to identify and perform day-to-day maintenance of facilities and preventative maintenance/repair.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools to perform work within maintenance trades including carpentry/painting, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repair.
  • Assists with the installation, operation, and/or general maintenance of all equipment and components that support the buildings and grounds.
  • Troubleshoots problems in the event of mechanical failure of equipment and recommends parts needed for the effective repair or replacement.
  • Receives, schedules, and responds to maintenance requests from a variety of facilities users (School of Architecture, Foundation, Fellowship), including the FLLW Helpdesk system, and completes necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Assists with emergency and unscheduled repairs site-wide as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service and understands standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required to perform duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

• Ability to perform semi-skilled labor in trades such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, etc., with little or no supervision.
• Ability to use basic and precision hand tools and utilize precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
• Ability to speak effectively with and actively listen to Foundation and TPI staff, School faculty and students, Taliesin residents and guests, contractors, vendors, and the general public.
• Ability to understand and follow departmental policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively individually or as a team member in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and unexpected events or delays.
• Ability to work Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and occasional nights and weekends as required by supervisor.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Computer proficiency including Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Office products.
• Previous experience performing similar duties.
• Familiarity with the architecture and ideas of Frank Lloyd Wright.
• Familiarity with the concept and practice of historic preservation.

• Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
