Based at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Director of Development is responsible for the daily management and execution of donor outreach. The Director will work with existing donors and donor candidates to secure annual and multi-year giving commitments that will create strong community partnerships, meaningful relationships and help build a solid philanthropic giving base. The organization uses a moves management strategy that is rooted in the community engagement and sustainable funding model (Benevon Sustainable Funding Model).

Essential Functions:

• Grow and manage a portfolio of approximately 150 stratified donors and donor candidates
• Manage annual year-end direct mail appeal
• Organize donor-centric cultivation events, ranging from receptions to an annual fundraising event
• Research, identify and introduce donor candidates to the Foundation
• Create written content for cultivation and customized proposals, and comprehensive follow up reports
• Maintain updated and accurate donor records and files in the Raiser's Edge database
• Represent the Foundation within the community at-large by attending and actively participating in appropriate functions and events
• Participate as a member of the Benevon team
• Work with key volunteers and staff to identity those that have a passion for the Foundation's work
• Empower volunteers to become excellent team members and well-skilled cultivators, communicators and solicitors

Position Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred; area of focus in communication, nonprofit or business administration, or related field
• Five to seven years of successful professional experience in major gifts development within operational, capital and planned gift campaigns
• Metrics and process oriented
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, use of creativity, insight, and a problem-solving approach to new and existing projects
• Able to create a cohesive and compelling story that inspires funders to action
• Solution oriented, entrepreneurial, can-do attitude
• Demonstrated ability to exercise good, independent judgment, and show consistent follow-through; able to act strategically and respectfully
• High level of computer proficiency and experience with applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Raiser's Edge
• Collegial and hospitable demeanor toward internal and external stakeholders; comfortable with a range of personalities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Practical experience with the Benevon model
