Imaging Science Intern 

Description

The Academy Science and Technology Council is developing architecture and supporting tools for digital motion picture mastering applications, exploring the effects of new motion picture lighting technologies, and the impact of new technologies on the future of the cinematic experience.

The Imaging Science Intern position will support various Academy Projects:

  • The intern will gain experience with innovative image processing technologies.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to learn about current trends motion picture production and post-production, and the associated technologies.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to learn about the Academy’s Image Interchange Framework.
  • The intern will participate in software and hardware prototyping and development

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist in the maintenance of a robust software development and distribution architecture.
  • Assist in the creation of image processing algorithms and software tools.
  • Assist in prototyping hardware and software solutions to explore the physical and psychophysical effects of new motion picture capture, post-production, and display technologies as they relate to enhancing cinematic experience.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Enrolled in an accredited Bachelor or Master university degree program in Engineering, Computer Science, or a Film related major with an interest in working in the entertainment industry.
  • No graduating candidates will be accepted
  • Interns should have at least one semester left before they earn their degree.
  • A keen interest in motion picture technology and motion picture production workflows.
  • Interest in imaging system pipeline design, image processing, color science, vision science, and metrology.
  • Knowledge of programming methodologies and algorithm development.
  • Experience applying the principals of linear and nonlinear systems, inferential statistics, regression analysis, and matrix algebra.
  • Proficiency with writing platform independent software using the C++, C, or Java programming languages.
  • Proficiency with Linux and Mac OS X terminal environments, unix shells (bash, zsh, csh, etc), shell scripting, and scripting languages such as AWK, SED, Perl, and Python.
  • Experience with Mathworks Matlab helpful.
  • Experience with GPU programming using Cuda or OpenCL helpful.
  • Experience using Git version control.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as with others and perform as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Work may involve lifting boxes weighing up to 50 lbs and accessing boxes from tall shelving
