Director of Finance / Controller

To direct and manage all accounting and finance related functions and staff. This will include but not be limited to: general accounting, budgeting, treasury management operations and teaming with operations to improve profitability and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversees and coordinates all financial reporting. Responsible for month-end and annual closing process including review of reconciliations and issuance of financial statements. Establish and maintain internal control procedures and accounting policies. Responsible for compliance with various federal, state, and local agencies.

Plan, implement, oversee, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate all assigned accounting, cash control, and finance administration functions. Develop and modify systems, programs, procedures, and controls in accordance with company goals and objectives.

Exercise full supervisory authority, directly and indirectly, over approximately 10 to 15 employees in assigned departments. Plan and conduct training programs and staff meetings. Confer regularly with staff to plan, coordinate and review work, and resolve problems.

Plan and oversee the administration of the operating budgets for the resort and various homeowner associations.

Coordinate and monitor resort related insurance policies.

Prepare / review cash flow forecasts.

Carry out key planning tasks related to assigned functions, including federal tax planning and compliance with new government regulations, development of new or modification of existing systems/procedures/programs/policies to meet the changing needs of the company.

Review and analyze various financial reports.

Confer regularly with senior management, other accounting/finance personnel, and various company executives, managers, and staff to review financial reports; discuss goals; plan, coordinate and evaluate projects/systems/policies/procedures/activities; exchange information; and resolve problems.

Other duties as assigned by senior management, which could be directly related, or unrelated to original position.

Position Requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages Accounting Manager who supervises a total of 10-15 employees in the Accounting Department in addition to Senior Accountants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting, business, or appropriate discipline; plus five or more years relevant ski resort or equivalent managerial experience.

Language Skills 

Ability to read and interpret documents  and basic contracts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills 

 Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Good working knowledge of MS Excel is required.

Other Skills and Abilities 

Excellent planning, organizational, administrative, personnel and budget management skills. Expert working knowledge of Excel. Very strong interpersonal skills. Ability to represent the company and deal effectively with a wide range of company personnel as well as firms/organizations/individuals outside the company; good formal and informal negotiating skills.

Other Qualifications 

Broad and in-depth knowledge and skills in business accounting and finance, including budgeting, cash management and audit procedures. Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
