Director of Core Manufacturing Engineering 

Description The Director of Core Manufacturing Engineering manages is responsible for developing and maintaining the Core Manufacturing Bills of Process for production, the ME processes and procedures in the Product Development Plan, the tooling database, and the global packaging team. The position is also responsible to provide support to Supply Chain Management indirect buyers to develop the strategic and preferred capital equipment supply base plan in a matched pair matrix organization, providing technical expertise and working with the supply base on new advanced manufacturing development topics. Core Manufacturing Engineering is also responsible to support the execution of the vertical integration plan with product engineering, and is the key interface from the Advanced Development Plan for manufacturing through to production. The successful candidate will have a rich background in development of production processes and managing capital equipment from inception through to start of production with several examples of flawless launch execution. Time spent in the plant on current production processes and resolving day to day issues to cement the fundamental mindset of problem solving quickly and efficiently is expected. A background in the following processes will greatly benefit the successful candidate:

• Steel forming/stampings, roll forming, fine blanking and heat treatment
• Plastic transformation: precision molding, overmolding, bi-injection, thermoforming, LFI
• Joining/bonding/welding: metal and plastic welding, laser, ultrasonic, infra-red and vibration welding
• Coatings: plating, gluing, painting, greasing, surface cleaning (plasma, flame, etc.)
• General Assembly

Having a firm grasp of the methods of pursuing new business with OEM customers through practice of working on a team that has been successful in winning new programs is key. Finally, experience in working with Design and Styling teams at OEMs and selling advanced technology through them to OEM product engineering and purchasing is a lynchpin of the background required to be successful. Responsibilities include:

• Support the design and build of the manufacturing process for core products.
• Provide manufacturing engineering processes that meet our quality, cost and performance requirements.
• Implement and maintain the PDP and MSD Procedures.
• Conduct / Participate in appropriate Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, MSD Workshops.
• Be a mentor and trainer of the PFMEA and Control Plan disciplines.
• Deliver PFMEA's, Control Plans, PFD's (including error proofing) to the plant for new programs.
• Support equipment cost estimates for new business quotations.
• Provide new equipment specifications and generate equipment requests for quotations.
 
Position Requirements • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering required; MBA preferred. Six sigma trained to Green Belt level or above preferred.
• 15 years' experience in Manufacturing Engineering Development, OEM business pursuit, project development in a tier 1 or tier 2 environment. Equivalent experience managing tool development, including gages and fixtures, to support all process listed above.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally 20%-30% of the time.
• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others in a matrix organization.
• Relatively high level of analytical and problem solving ability; demonstration of solving complex problems.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Plant experience highly desirable.
• Knowledge of MS Office tools.  
Education Requirement • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering required; MBA preferred. Six sigma trained to Green Belt level or above preferred.
