Manager of Major Gifts 

Description

Manager of Major Gifts is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned fundraiser to work with a growing team to develop a robust pipeline of major gifts prospects and for ongoing operating and project support once the museum opens. The successful candidate will be a metrics-driven, major gift fundraiser experienced in working with volunteer leaders and high-level prospects.

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Manager of Major Gifts will support the Director in developing and executing a major gifts program. The Manager of Major Gifts will provide research and strategic support for the Director of Individual Giving and will maintain a major gifts portfolio of 100-150 prospects capable of donating five- to seven-figure gifts to the campaign and future annual fundraising efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and executes strategies to achieve major gift goals as part of the Academy Museum capital campaign and ongoing operations
  • Identifies new prospects from a variety of sectors and works with Annual Giving team to identify current donors to increase support and ensure a robust pipeline
  • Creates fundraising call (either cultivation or solicitation) preparatory materials for staff and volunteer leadership
  • Drafts funding reports and correspondence for major donors and prospects
  • Manages donor stewardship calendar and contractual deliverables with Director of Individual Giving
  • Supports the Director of Individual Giving, the Managing Director of Advancement and External Affairs, the Director of the Academy Museum, and the CEO with solicitations
  • Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
  • Makes solicitations when appropriate
  • Maintains stewardship contacts with donors
  • Conceptualizes, plans and executes, with special events team, major donor and prospect events, including events in private residences, receptions, galas, etc.
  • Makes 20-25 face-to-face prospect visits per quarter, alone or with staff and/or volunteer leadership. Calls will be a combination of prospect identification and qualification visits, cultivation visits, solicitations or gift closing meetings.
  • Creates contact reports in a timely manner
  • With the Database Coordinator, ensures donor and prospect records are accurate
  • Works with other Academy sites to ensure cohesive and singular fundraising approach
 
Position Requirements
  • 3+ years successful experience in major gift fundraising
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising
  • Knowledge of entertainment industry a plus
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, research and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge or Altru a plus
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
  • Sense of humor appreciated
