Core Collection Reference Files/Archival Processor Intern 


The Core Collection Reference Files/Archival Processor intern is responsible for processing a large collection of papers and ephemera for the Core Reference Files of the Margaret Herrick Library. This is a limited internship position in the Core Reference Files Department of the Margaret Herrick Library and reports to the Head of Core Collection Reference Files.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Core Files Processor intern duties include sorting and organizing collections related to film advertising materials such as press books, lobby cards, and promotional ephemera, and entering records into library databases. In addition, the intern will be rehousing and digitizing lobby cards and press books related to early African American cinema as part of a department digitization project. The Intern will create metadata and finding aids, and upload the digital records into the library’s DMS and digital collections.

Position Requirements
  • Enrolled in ALA-accredited Master’s degree program in library and information science or moving image studies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history or a related field preferred.
  • Coursework in the principles of arrangement and description of archival collections, and knowledge of archival best practices, preservation standards and current developments.
  • Knowledge of current metadata and descriptive standards, including DACS and EAD.
  • Familiarity with content and digital asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of American film history, with broad awareness of independent features and African American cinema preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good penmanship and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift a 30-pound box to and from high and low shelving.
  • Will need to climb stairs.
