Special Collections Intern - Library 

Description The Special Collections Intern will gain hands-on experience processing an archival collection of film-related manuscript material from start to finish. The collection to be processed will be matched to the intern's area of interest and/or study. More than 70 occupations are represented in Special Collections, including actors, animators, art directors, cinematographers, costume designers, editors, and more.

Reports to: Senior Archivist/Vault Manager, Special Collections (Pickford Center)

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Process (arrange, organize, and describe) Special Collections manuscript and records materials in various formats, such as film production records and correspondence, for public research use in accordance with department and national standards, such as Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
•Analyze documents for topical content to correctly describe individual or groups of documents; research the historical context of collection and its creator(s); produce catalog records and finding aids using the Academy's collections management database; research and write collection scope and content note.
•Assist with other departmental tasks, including working hands-on with newly acquired collections and with processing other, often large, collections.


 
Position Requirements •College student attending an accredited graduate program
•Overall 3.0 grade point average
•Previous work or internship in a library or archive environment a plus
•Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
•Must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of 2 hours; stooping, ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
