Hydraulic Tech 



Applies to all activities and guidelines performed by the Hydraulic Tech. The primary function of this position is to work within the Construction/Rig Up engineering team to maintain Hydraulic Systems for land based oil rigs. This job description shall be reviewed as needed.



  • Install, repair, and maintain hydraulic equipment and machinery.

  • Work directly with the construction engineering teams and manufacturing teams to improve overall engineering systems.

  • Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with API and safety codes, or other regulations.

  • Adhere to companywide and department specific processes/procedures and safety guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • Ensure the hydraulic systems function properly in Oil and Gas environments.

Position Requirements

  • Education and Training – 3 years of experience and/or training in the hydraulic/fluid power field. Required: IFPS Hydraulic Mechanic Certification, preferred IFPS Hydraulic Specialist Certification.

  • Basic Skills ] Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of coworkers. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Experience – Oil and Gas industry experience required. Understanding of Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electric Control Systems. Knowledge of open loop load sensing control systems. Hydraulic Power Unit Fabrication. In particular:

    1. Must be able to understand and effect of pressure torque and force on mechanical components

    2. Capable of using properly and safely power tools like power drills, bolters, crimpers etc.

    3. Identify components by their symbolic representation on a schematic drawing, as pumps, valves, cylinders etc.

    4. Fasteners andfittingsidentification as to type, size, length, thread, and grade

    5. Properly use thread gage to identify Metric and Imperial and ACME threads

    6. Must be able to use multi-meter and interpreting readings for voltage, amperage, and resistance

    7. Ability to take measurements of a part that range from 1/16” to .0001” and requires using scales, calipers, and micrometers on components like piston pumps and spools.

    8. Ability to identifying size, type, and pressure ratings of steel tube/pipe, rubber hoses by properly using dial caliper, hose identification charts, hose pressure charts, tubing pressure charts, and station identification chart

    9. Bend and flare tube assembly, use crimping tube (PYPLOK) measuring, cutting, flaring, and assembly compound bending of pipes and tubing.

    10. Read and select proper tubing an piping from data sheets

    11. Measure with Dial calipers ID-OD of piping and tubing

  • Physical Demands ] While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Working Conditions – This job is mainly performed in the rig yard ad shop. It requires being outside with structures; the noise level is moderate.
