About the Job:

Sanding and preparing surfaces for paint, mixing paint products, applying paint products, wet sanding paint finishes after painting and buffing color sanded paint area to final finish.  Individually and cooperatively apply aircraft top coat paint applications.  Identifying proper paint products for particular aircraft, research paint codes for specific projects, contact paint suppliers when needed and work with buyer to obtain required paint. Maintain inventory of painting consumables work with buyer for replenishment as required. This will be accomplished to quality standards and performing the tasks within the guidelines of all safety and regulatory requirements as well as allocated man-hour budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Works from drawings, sketches, pictures or verbal specifications to layout design for painting aircraft, aircraft parts and sub-assemblies, including “N” numbers, stripes, patterns, designs as required.
  • Prepares surfaces to be painted by sanding, cleaning and conversion coating.
  • Strips paint from aircraft, aircraft parts or sub-assemblies.
  • Selects and mixes proper paint to the Manufacturer’s specifications to meet job requirements– May be required to experiment with special paints and related products.
  • Sets up and uses spray gun for proper application of urethane and epoxy paints.
  • Touches up aircraft with brush and/or spray gun blend-in techniques.
  • Assists /trains others in the performance of their job assignments.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA and Company safety procedures.
  • Accurately logs computerized labor data collection system for work orders, time and attendance tracking.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Inventories paint consumables and requests replenishment as necessary.
  • Completes assigned jobs within prescribed time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years painting experience with applying a high quality topcoat to specific aircraft specs
  • Must be able to work from designs or verbal instructions to perform layout design
  • Must be familiar with applicable manufacturer standards and Company procedure governing the care and treatment of aluminum
  • Must be able to operate standard spray paint equipment: buffers, paint guns, sanding equipment, dual action orbital sander and common hand tools
  • Able to walk, climb, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to repeatedly climb descend scaffolds, ladders and other related equipment with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must have the physical and muscular dexterity to stand or kneel for extended periods of time during painting, sanding or while working on aircraft
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must not be abnormally allergic while applying paint, paint stripper, solvents, primers, or other related products that produce fumes or dust
  • Able to wear a respirator
  • A & P license preferred
  • Good basic mechanical skills helpful
  • Experience using power buffing equipment on polished metal surfaces a plus
